POSITION SUMMARY

The Angling Recruitment Partnership Coordinator will report directly to Trout Unlimited’s, Arizona State Lead, and will be responsible for implementing a partnership with the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD). Specifically, this hire will coordinate Arizona’s Angling Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation (R3) Program. This position will work out of the AZGFD office in Phoenix and collaborate with the agency’s Education Program Manager. This position will be responsible for coordinating and collaborating with various partnership organizations to assess gaps in current R3 programming and implementation efforts and develop clear and measurable criteria to assess program success. This will include supporting multi-partner events executed by AZGFD and other partners.

The position will also serve as the Arizona Trout Unlimited coordinator for the Southwest Native Trout Strategy; Trout in the Classroom and provide leadership for the Annual Native and Wild Trout Conference.

Requirements:

Partnership Collaboration

  • Participate in development of multi-partner outreach fishing events, outreach/educational planning, logistical support, and staffing. Assist with human dimension surveys and reporting. Leverage partners to ensure support of overall program.
  • Coordinate dissemination and inventory of outreach resources to partners in support of events.
  • Develop course materials for presentation in support of stakeholder events. Access target group needs and lead all aspects of key events with stakeholders.
  • Create a framework for collaboration between stakeholders that provides the foundation for enhanced communication and coordination of angler recruitment programs based on models of success.
  • Develop mentoring coalition focusing stakeholder efforts on common goals.
  • Work with stakeholders to provide a greater number of effective mentoring opportunities for new anglers.
  • Work in coordination with existing angler outreach staff in Arizona.
  • Expand the capacity within new and current stakeholders for programs that fill current gaps in recruitment, retention, and reactivation efforts.
  • Attend and participate in Trout Unlimited meetings that include R3 education, training, coordination and networking opportunities.
  • Provide leadership for Trout Unlimited on the Southwest Native Trout Strategy, Trout in the Classroom and the Annual Native and Wild Trout Conference.

Program Assessment

  • Coordinate assessment of existing statewide recruitment, retention, and reactivation programs to determine gaps and work with stakeholders to improve/expand programs as necessary.
  • Develop tools to enhance the identification of potential participants for angling outreach efforts.
  • Align new and existing mentoring efforts/outreach programs with models of success.

Program Coordination

  • Assist in the blending of angling recruitment, retention and reactivation models with state efforts (new and existing).
  • Develop mentored angler clubs (social networks) with key partners including youth and family organizations as well as the Hunting, Angling Heritage Working Group (HAHWG). Coordinate efforts to re-engage lapsed anglers.
  • Develop and maintain database to monitor angling demographics in Arizona for program analysis.
  • Create tools for partners to help mentees to locate mentoring opportunities.
  • Work with AZGFD’s, Education Program Manager and staff to create and implement a template for mentor selection and development in Arizona.
  • Lead volunteer development and management activities.
  • Assist with various programs including:
    • Trout Unlimited and other partner education/outreach programs (RBFF)
    • AZGFD, HAHWG program, expos, angler tournaments, AZGFD and partner led fishing days, Outdoor Discovery programs, Arizona Wildlife Federation and Sportsmen for Wildlife Conservation
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in performing above or similar duties.
  • Undergraduate degree in outdoor recreation, education, fish and wildlife management, biology, conservation, natural resources management or similar related field.
  • Arizona Level 1 fingerprint clearance card as required by state statute for positions working with children or vulnerable adults as part of regular duties.
  • An understanding of Arizona conservation organizations, hunting, fishing and shooting sports, and local/National outdoor recreation partnership efforts.
  • An understanding of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.
  • Able to work irregular schedules including moderate travel, some weekends, evenings and overnight stays.
  • Experience motivating and engaging with volunteers.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, ability to work with limited supervision, self-motivated and able to motivate others.
  • Able to host public meetings and serve as public speaker.
  • Able to drive a state vehicle.
  • Able to work with diverse audiences.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with little direct supervision at certain times.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
