What You Will Be Doing:
Under limited supervision, responsible for business partnering, providing decision support and insightful guidance, and completing complex clinical modeling, forecasting and analysis. Responsible for leading enhancements to data analytics capabilities, methodologies, and practices. The Senior Clinical Analyst has deeply advanced knowledge of the job area and technical systems and practices, and deeply advanced technical skills and reporting abilities.

  • Analyzes and interprets clinical data and metrics to identify impacts, risks, opportunities, trends, variances and other insights.
  • Proactively identifies potential data and analytical needs to support management and performance monitoring requirements.
  • Collaborates with business partners to understand business priorities and strategic initiatives and develop effective and timely analytic solutions.
  • Fosters a data-driven culture through exploratory analytics, experimentation, and in-depth research into business data.
  • Makes recommendations regarding use of medical informatics including medical data mining, EMR, and decision support systems.
  • Assists end users in identifying and defining data needs, interpreting data validity and accuracy, analytic and/or reporting needs, and developing self-reporting capabilities.
  • Compiles, develops, and submits complex reports with written summaries and recommendations to management.
  • Collaborates with external and internal stakeholders to maintain the availability, validity, and integrity of data sources.
  • Maintains appropriate and required data, records, and other operational and regulatory report documentation.
  • Supports internal and external audits, and assists in the preparation of recommendations, responses, and reports.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements.

  • In-depth knowledge of the principles, concepts best practices and performance measures used in clinical analytics, and the ability to effectively use, implement and maintain them.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and coding.

  • Advanced skills in Excel, including ability to create complex formulas, pivot tables, data tables, simulations, and solvers.
  • Strong skills in Windows, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to speak and be understood in English.
  • Ability to treat confidential information with appropriate discretion.

  • Data Sourcing and Mining: Sources, extracts, and validates a variety of identified and unknown data from a wide variety of sources to provide integrated information leading to accurate and timely decision making and planning; chooses appropriate data sources.
  • Interpersonal savvy: Relates openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people; interacts effectively with individuals both inside and outside of HPSJ; establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrates initiative; Identifies what needs to be done and takes appropriate action.
  • Optimizes Work Processes: Knows the most effective and efficient process to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement in functional area and across the organization.
  • Ability to think at both strategic and implementation level.

Preferred
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and reporting requirements related to State and federally sponsored healthcare programs (i.e., Medi-Cal, Medicaid).
  • Proficiency with a statistical language such as R or SAS; experience using other programming and data manipulation languages preferred (SQL, Hive, Pig, Python)
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively use analytical tools (i.e. Tableau, Power BI, Qlikview).
  • Knowledge of ability to utilize statistical methods and techniques (predictive modeling, segmentation, regression, etc.).

What You Bring:
Education & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, Business Administration or related; and
  • At least four years as a data analyst in a health plan; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred
  • Experience working as an analyst in a managed care or Medi-Cal environment
  • Clinical licensure
  • Experience working on a healthcare analytics team.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; and
  • At least three years creating journal entries, reconciling and analyzing accounts, preparing and analyzing financial statements; and
  • Experience as an accountant in a managed care organization; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred
  • Experience in accounting in a health plan, managed care, Medi-Cal/Medicaid and/or Medicare
