What is the SolarCorps Fellowship Program…

GRID Alternatives’ SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic people to join GRID Alternatives for an 11-month paid service term (approx. $35,200 total + benefits). In this position, you’ll gain valuable experience in the renewable energy and non-profit industries while making significant contributions to communities most impacted by environmental and economic injustice!

The SolarCorps Fellowship Program is part of the AmeriCorps network of programs. SolarCorps is made possible with funding support from CAVolunteers and JPB Foundation.

The Opportunity...

We are seeking a full-time SolarCorps Outreach Fellow to engage with the outreach team and help implement outreach strategy to increase the number of income-qualified clients served in regional counties. Outreach SolarCorps members will educate underserved communities impacted by environmental and economic injustice about the benefits and cost-savings of renewable energy. Members are trained and supervised by GRID's regional outreach managers to support qualifying families through the solar installation process and educate families about other energy efficiency programs before going solar. Members with this experience go on to careers in solar sales, community engagement, and other related roles.

  • Help promote community awareness of GRID Alternatives’ services and mission by researching, attending and potentially speaking at community meetings and other events
  • Assist and shadow Outreach Coordinators in client application process and eventually be able to in-take multiple applications per month
  • Assist and shadow Outreach Coordinators in homeowner trainings and eventually be able to conduct training for homeowners once their systems are installed
  • Help create easy-to-read materials that educate homeowners on energy efficiency
  • Help research potential partnerships with affordable housing developers, local government agencies, and community-based organizations in order to more effectively identify, encourage, and serve income qualified clients
What you need to bring to this role…
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 11-month commitment and complete 1700 hours of service
  • To be eligible for AmeriCorps, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively
  • Comfortable being part of a team
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • After starting with GRID, must successfully register and maintain a Home Improvement Salesperson registration with the Contractors State License Board
  • Interest and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, and helping families and communities in need.
  • When working remotely, you must have access to a reliable internet connection. GRID will provide a laptop, charger, headset when remote working is required.

It would be great if you also had…

  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Bilingual in Spanish

  • $35,200 stipend for 11 months (Mon, Sept 18, 2023 - Thurs August 15th, 2024)

What will be your schedule...

Fellows average 40 hours per week (total AmeriCorps requirement is 1700 hours)

GRID Alternatives Central Valley, Fresno, CA. This position may require some travel throughout the region.

California Locations: hired candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.
