Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Agronomy Leader, which will work remotely, but be assigned to a district.
Job Summary:
The Agronomy Leader will serve as the assigned districts expert for agronomic consulting in the east, west, or central districts of Michigan Sugar Company’s growing areas including Ontario, Canada. In this role, more than 50,000 acres of sugar beets will be managed at a value of more than 40 million dollars. The Agronomy Leader will be responsible for hiring, coaching, and developing a team of field consultants and an agronomist that will cover the assigned district areas. The Agronomy Leader will lead, direct, and consultant their team to improve and enhance our grower’s sustainability. They will be responsible for all agronomy standards and expectations within their team/teams. The Agronomy Leader will also work with assigned growers, to consult on agronomic practices and serve as their agronomic expert.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Hire/Lead/Coach a team of 3-4 field consultants and agronomist professionals.
  • Serve as primary agronomy “expert” in their assigned growing areas.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with the other teams within the agricultural department.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with all Industry experts.
  • Guide Agribusiness to adopt and adhere to Michigan Sugar Company agronomic practices.
  • Together with Ag Relations and Communications Manager, develop and grow communication vehicles for increased effectives.
  • Agronomy program development in terms of grower services, technology offerings (variable rate planting for example), and field consulting professional development.
  • Develop programs that continually increase RWST.
  • Work hand in hand with our Research Department in offering recommendations for trials and in rolling out results that create more economic wherewithal for our shareholders.
  • Develop presentations and present agronomic information at meetings
  • Foster strong ties between all Ag Pillars (Research, Ag Ops and Shareholder Relations).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy related study
  • 10+ years of experience in field consulting and/or field advising
  • Leadership experience managing, coaching, and directing teams
  • Competent in computer software packages such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to provide trusted advice to growers
  • Strong background in disease management, soil science, and weed control
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills
