Summary:

This position requires a warm, friendly personality with the ability to be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others. In addition, this person must be able to relate well with children and adults. The Afterschool Toddler Assistant Teacher works with the Lead Teacher and another Assistant Teacher to maintain the classroom environments in which the Montessori approach to education is implemented, and to help supervise the end-of-the-day transitions for toddlers aged 18 months to 2.5 years.

Job Responsibilities

  • Interact with the children in an open, honest, and loving manner, always with dignity and respect.
  • Be consistent: do what you say and say what you do.
  • Trust that the children are able to do things by themselves.
  • Be aware of the child’s concentration and avoid disturbing it at all costs.
  • Supervise and engage in appropriate play with 12 children between the ages of 18 months to 3 years old inside the classroom and outdoor play.
  • Keep the environment in order: clean, supplied, and in good repair.
  • Collaborate and communicate with classroom staff and administration.
  • Support children through the toilet learning process.
  • Support children during nap time.
  • Be available for part-time shifts everyday : M-F 1PM - 5PM

Qualifications

  • Must be open and willing to learn about the authentic Montessori method and Positive Discipline (guidance will be provided).
  • 12 ECE Credits (Minimum of 6 units completed and enrolled in 6 additional units).
  • AA or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience working with children between 12 months - 3 years old (1+ years preferred).
  • A warm and friendly personality with the ability to be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, including children and adults.
  • Love of children and humanity.
  • Must have oral and written proficiency in the English language.
  • Organized and well-spoken.
  • Open-minded and growth-oriented.
  • Must have a combination of humility and hunger for improvement.
  • Must complete post-offer, and pre-employment physical, and provide proof of required vaccinations and TB test.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Criminal and Background Clearance.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or be willing to acquire).
  • Must be up-to-date on COVID vaccination (all our staff are fully vaccinated)
  • Be available for 5 days a week, M-F 1PM - 5PM

Compensation

The hourly pay for this position is $24 - $27/hour. Paid federal holiday shifts.
