Job Summary:


Under the direct supervision of the Admitting Manager/Supervisor, coordinates and completes every phase of the admission function including admissions, interviews, document preparation, bed assignments for all elective, direct and/or emergency admission, revenue collection, anesthesia interviews, transportation, transcription and admission data retrieval.


Essential Responsibilities:


Interviews patients prior to hospital admission, collecting personal, demographic, financial and medical information. Instruct and review with patient, information concerning hospitalization. Ascertain health plan status and research eligibility. Collects appropriate co-payments from Health Plan members for hospital services. Obtain permits and consents per CHA consent guidelines. Prepares surgery related admission paperwork in advance to facilitate the surgical admissions process for timely surgical procedures. Assembles and coordinates admission materials to create a comprehensive admission package. Affixes identification bracelet to the patients wrist on the side of the body opposite the intended procedures or injury. Confers with physician and nursing staff concerning the appropriate room assignment of patients. Receive, document, secure and release patient valuables according to Standard Procedure 18A, including release of decedent valuables as authorized in the California probate law. Provide family up-to-date information concerning admission and hospital practices and procedures. Evaluate and attempt to resolve/refer public and patient concerns as they arise. Facilitate the timely admission of patients throughout the hospital by coordinating patient information with the Emergency Room, Clinic departments, House Nursing Supervisor and outside Care Coordinators. Initiate membership records on all newborns. Collects all information necessary to bill second-party payers, e.g. COB, Medicare/Medical, third-party payers, Workers Compensation. **Releases deceased patients to mortuary or coroner personnel with properly signed releases and identification. May have decedent affairs responsibilities. Distributes admission materials to proper locations. May order patient charts utilizing ADT system. Answer phones and provide information to physicians, staff and public. Provides support in conducting audits depending upon supervisory need. Acts as liaison between recovery room and concerned family members of surgical patients. May have additional responsibilities including ambulance coordination, nurse staffing, payroll, and patient placement Perform other related duties as required. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience

Six months experience in a hospital/clerical setting or medical office. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to multi-task and write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other incumbents of the organization. Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment. Also refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

  • High School Diploma/GED. Typing Speed: 35 wpm or 6000 data entry keystrokes.
