Hourly: $27.86 - $29.56/hour (step 1-3)

The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant II in the Public Works Department. Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Works under the direct supervision of the DPU/W Administrative Operations Manager by providing administrative support and customer service for the Departments of Public Utilities and Works. Duties include acting as gatekeeper by managing calls, assisting co-workers and the public, maintaining departmental files, maintaining conference room calendar, distributing incoming and preparing logs for the outgoing departmental mail, preparing and reconciling Limited Purchase Orders, preparing Purchase Requisitions using the MUNIS financial system, preparing Payment Authorizations, and preparing routine correspondence, processing reimbursements, and assisting with the Building Permit and Utility Service Application process as requested by Engineering staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must work effectively and efficiently and establish professional and productive working relationships with the public, Unalaska officials and staff. Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills and have the ability to learn, understand, and apply multiple departmental procedures and tasks. Must be professional and able to work under pressure with a demonstrated work history of office practices and procedures, general record keeping and filling systems, and the ability to operate basic office equipment. Must be proficient in a Windows environment including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Outlook, and database software.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Two (2) years of professional office experience.
Previous bookkeeping experience in a public sector environment preferred.
Combination of education and experience that could provide necessary knowledge, skills and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have or ability to obtain an Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of hire;
Must be eligible to work in the US; if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9) as required by Federal law.
Successfully pass background test which includes criminal background, professional and reference check.
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
