OTHER: *Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of statutory hiring rate ($49,202) and Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,513). The Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,513) is also added to job rate ($62,806).

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Adaptive Equipment Specialist (AES) position is a skill-based technician position that is needed to meet the ongoing needs of individuals’ existing wheelchair and seating system repairs, repairs to mechanical hospital beds and patient mechanical lifts, as well as the fabrication/customization of new equipment, such as: wheelchairs, shower chairs, toilet commodes, and assistive devices for physically compromised and disabled individuals in order to maximize their support, health and safety, and day-to-day functioning. The AES works under the auspices of the Head PT and collaborates with both Sr. OT and Sr. PT staff in terms of assignment of duties and problem solving.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

· Participates in seating clinics with venders and OT/PT staff.

· Performs needed off-site repairs, maintenance, and modification of equipment.

· Utilizes various machine shop equipment in the fabrication/repair/customization of adaptive equipment and assistive devices.

· Assists with the Wheelchair Securement Training Program.

· Maintains documentation including mileage of the AES van, monthly reports, and adaptive equipment repair requests.

· Maintains an inventory of parts, devices, and materials.

· Performs lift repairs and set-up.

· Assists with the set-up of hospital beds, and repairs, or modifies as needed.

· Responds to requests for wheelchairs, lifts, and beds in a timely manner, logging the completion or status on the adaptive repair request form.

· Participates / assists with the new employee orientation (NEO) training modules.

· Participates in the Safe Patient Handling Committee meetings.

· Attends to other duties as assigned.

NOTE: Applicants for the position must have a valid driver’s license to apply as travel is a part of the duties involved in this position. This may include a state-owned vehicle, as available, or the employee’s own car. An employee who uses his/her own car will be reimbursed at current negotiated rates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Non-Competitive: two years of experience designing and manufacturing adaptive equipment; two years of skilled experience in carpentry or a related trade, one year of which must have been designing and manufacturing adaptive equipment for individuals.
