POSITION SUMMARY

The Store Transaction Support/Sales Tax Supervisor is responsible for managing the Sales Tax and Store Transaction support teams who are responsible for various accounting functions within the organization, including but not limited to sales and use tax reporting, sales and use tax audits, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and assisting tire centers with cash, invoicing, and sales tax questions. This role manages, coordinates, guides, and mentors team resources in alignment with leadership direction. The Supervisor will also allocate assignments, resolve issues, manage staff performance, and engage with company leadership on progress and potential risks.

ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and provide mentorship to staff. Direct assignments related to the sales tax process, prepare and review sales/use tax reconciliations and returns. Assist stores with cash handling, invoice corrections, and sales/use tax procedures. Work with the internal controls group to continually evaluate and monitor the department processes, identify weaknesses and ways to enhance efficiencies. Create and update training materials.
  • Understand company and department needs to provide perspective and support while assisting with development and implementation of new systems and solutions.
  • Manage sales tax audits. Maintain professional correspondence with auditors. Collaborate with other departments to collect data and to provideinformation to state auditors as required. Report audit status updates to senior management. Maintain a risk matrix to monitor exposure to sales tax audits.
  • Assist in the daily/monthly management of the general ledger, ensuring financial data is properly classified and presented.
  • Participate in the year-end close process and produce related closing files. Prepare various year-end accruals and analysis, including schedules for the external and internal auditors.Interact and work with external and internal auditors, to facilitate an efficient and successful year-end audit.

ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and 5+ years of accounting or related experience, including financial close, reconciliations, analysis and reporting
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Advanced PC skills including Word, Excel, Google Suite, Netsuite, Workday, Customer First, OneSource, Vertex or working knowledge of similar general ledger and ERP systems.
  • Ability to identify procedural and internal control weakness and provide suggestions and guidance for improvement.
  • Must possess the time management and organizational skills necessary to work quickly and effectively under pressure with the flexibility to perform in an ever-changing work environment, concentrating on several areas of work at one time
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills with proven ability to manage high complexity and diversity of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and professionally (both verbally and in writing) while ensuring that the quality and content of the message are relevant to the circumstances and understandable to wide audiences; the ability to draft, proofread, and send written communications effectively; the ability and willingness to carefully listen to others by asking appropriate questions, avoiding interruptions, and the leadership to collaborate internally, cross-functionally, and across management levels in formal and informal settings
  • Ability to organize, manage, prioritize, and budget organizational activities and projects effectively and strategically
  • Excellent ability to manage, motivate and grow employees to ensure successful completion of work tasks and projects to achieve organizational goals and objectives; the ability to encourage teamwork; delegate authority and provide direction;
  • Set and communicate performance expectations; monitor employee performance against expectations; and coach and develop employees using instruction, personal guidance, example, and constructive feedback
  • Create an environment that is stakeholder-focused; encourage team collaboration to anticipate and understand stakeholders' needs, empower staff to identify suitable solutions; ensure staff is consistently delivering on those expectations
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and encourage high-trust working relationships with business users and team members; must work effectively independently, as a member of a team, and as a team leader
