This position will serve as an expert on all matters pertaining to the financial operations for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) department. Primary responsibilities include accounting and bookkeeping of the program funds and grant funded research. The position requires knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, record keeping, human resource actions, and financial forecasting.
The Accountant's primary duties are as follows:
A) Supervise and assist MAE Accounting Specialist position
B) Prepares and distributes financial statements monthly
C) Prepares and processes Pcard and OK Corral purchases
D) Prepares and processes travel requests and travel reimbursement vouchers
E) Process invoices from internal and external entities for payment, which includes auditing and processing of subcontracts with other entities and their recurring invoicing
F) Supervise, initiate, and monitor all expenditures and income related to MAE instructional, organizational research, sponsored research, lab and service accounts, and OSU Foundation accounts.
G) Encumbers expenses such as salary, travel, requisitions, and work orders to proper funding accounts for projection purposes
H) Moves expenses to proper funding accounts as needed via a redistributions or retroactive cost transfer
I) Creates OSU Foundation vouchers and makes deposits/transfers to Foundation accounts at needed
J) Provides assistance and monitors compliance with OSU, State, and College policies
K) Provide human resource support for the program (including recruitment, new hire paperwork, EPAFS and payroll functions, and hiring process of incoming faculty and their relocation matters)
L) Process and submit monthly sales tax reports to FIM. Includes processing of maintenance of sale tax permit renewals and payments
M) Organize, track and enter scholarships for undergraduates and graduate students.
N) Maintain departmental Online MarketPlace and handle all purchases and reporting
O) Maintain monthly Time & Effort reports and audits for all salaries charged to externally funded grants and contracts
P) Facilitate compliance on DOD Contracting Requirements for Time Keeping
Q) Assists with general functioning of the office including receptionist duties, as needed

Position Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with two years of related work experience.

Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices related to accounting and finance activities.
Able to exercise great initiative independent judgment.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Ability to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously.
Solid problem-solving skills.
Proficient in MS suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel or Access) and the ability to generate reports using Excel or Access software.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's in accounting or related field and four years of accounting experience.
Experience interpreting and forecasting expenditures on grants.
Accounting experience in a University setting.
Experience using Banner, OK Corral, AIRS, or with other OSU finance systems.
