JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, the Program Accountant is the financial leader of the program. The Program Accountant is responsible for safeguarding and maximizing the program assets. In addition, the Program Accountant is a partner with the Program Director in creating a culture of excellence in the program with high ethical and customer service standards. The Program Accountant works with the Program Director to meet the budget goals for the program as created by the director and accountant and approved by the CEO and finance committee. In addition to program responsibilities, the accountant may also have other accounting responsibilities related to month end close, audits, etc. The Program Accountant is required to maintain high ethical standards as it manages agency, funder, and consumer funds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Owns all accounting, bookkeeping, audits and financial analysis functions for the programs assigned by the Senior Manager. The responsibilities are outlined in the Program Accountant List of Responsibilities. This is instrumental for the Agency to maintain accurate financial records as required for the government, funders and other entities.

B. Works with all Managed Care Organizations and Medicare/Medicaid for billing and accounts receivable.

C. Assists the program director in analyzing financial information to make the best decisions for the program and the agency. By helping the program reach its financial goals, the program can meet its goal of serving people in need.

D. Prepare accurate financial statements for the program monthly. Program accountant and director can use the financial statements to make decisions for the program.

E. Develop, maintain and enhance internal controls within the assigned programs and agency.

F. Assist the Senior Accounting Manager with various accruals and general ledger account reconciliations as required for the annual financial statement audit, single audit, Louisiana Auditors Agreed Upon Procedures.

G. Special Projects. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-essential)

  • Maintain a neat and clean desk and office space
  • Pick up departmental mail from the second floor

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

No direct supervisory duties, but is the financial leader for the program assigned by the Senior Manager.

  • Partner with the Program Director
  • Program funders – MCO s, State of Louisiana, Federal Agencies, private grantors etc.
  • Leadership Group

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

This position requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:

  • Holds or is actively working on, a Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university specializing in accounting, management, finance or business. Additional experience may be substituted for degree.
  • 1 year experience with an accounting firm or other entity.
  • 1 year experience with healthcare billing and receivables.
  • Strong professional ethics which include approaching others in a tactful manner; reacting well under pressure; treating others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepting responsibility for own actions; following through on commitments.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Agency s fund accounting software as well as Microsoft Office products – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Should be able to create pivot tables and lookup tables in Excel.
  • Ability to work some flexible hours is required. Specifically during year end audit, forecast and budget preparation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Must be able to pass a criminal history investigation
