Accountant - Loomis Harley-Davidson Group

This position requires accounting work of some difficulty as well as the ability to direct and oversee accounting work of others.

The ideal candidate understands the complexity of Dealership accounting and possesses the required knowledge of accounting theory, principles, and procedures as well as the ability to apply that knowledge creatively.

This position is responsible for performing the day-to-day accounting work of one dealership including the maintenance of a complete set of accounts and fiscal records for the capture and summarization of financial transactions utilizing a computerized dealership management system. The position is responsible for the operation of all accounting related features of the dealership management software, the preparation of financial and statistical reports for dealership management and for the submission of monthly financial information to HDMC.

Additionally, this position is also responsible for supervising the day-to-day work of accounting assistants and/or bookkeepers; also assisting in the preparation of financial and statistical reports; preparation of budgets, projections, and forecasts of other group owned dealerships.

Qualifications & Job Requirements

· Associates Degree with a major in accounting or completion of two years of college coursework with an emphasis in accounting is REQUIRED.

· Certified Bookkeeper accreditation from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers highly desirable.

· Certified Notary Public is preferred.

· Minimum of two years of experience in Dealership accounting is REQUIRED.

· Experience with at least one accounting software program – TALONes HIGHLY Preferred or Peachtree.

· Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and experience with Microsoft Word.

· Ability to communicate effectively to resolve problems with other dealership employees, suppliers, Harley-Davidson representative and governmental agencies.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting Processes and Systems:

· Assist in the establishment of the accounting policies, practices, standards, and controls of the dealership, ensuring that all written procedures are current.

· Resolve accounting issues as they arise in the daily processing of dealership transactions.

· Recommend and implement changes to continuously improve systems and financial performance.

General Ledger:

· Resolve accounting issues as they arise in the daily processing of dealership transactions.

· Investigate and trace errors and record adjustments to correct inadvertent postings to incorrect accounts.

· Reconcile all subsidiary ledgers to general ledger control balances monthly. In some cases, maintain spreadsheets or other auxiliary sub-ledgers to supplement standard accounting software capabilities.

Receivables, Payables, Cash Management & Regulatory Compliance:

· Prepare daily bank deposits by compiling and reconciling accounting reports and media from POS cash drawers.

· Maintain vendor records and track outstanding obligations payable by due date so as to optimize cash flow and take full advantage of attractive vendor payment terms.

· Examine and distribute vendor invoices and other payment requests to appropriate general ledger account classifications.

· Issue checks in payment of merchandise purchases, supplies, services and customer accommodations.

· Compile payroll information for submission to an external payroll service or process payrolls using accounting software functionality.

· Comply with Department of Motor Vehicle regulations, file all required reports, and remit all payments on a timely basis.

· Comply with all taxing authority requirements, make timely deposits of required taxes and file tax returns as required.

· Assist in the management of cash by accelerating receipts, timing disbursements to the dealership's best advantage, and utilizing all available credit facilities to take maximum advantage of all cash available to the dealership.

Auditing & Report Writing:

· Audit and resolve any anomalies encountered in daily financial transactions as recorded by others in dealer management system modules and execute the daily transfer of transactions from dealer management system modules to the accounting software in use.

· Prepare monthly bank reconciliation.

· Prepare and review monthly trial balances, general ledger detail postings, financial statements and other financial reports and statistics. Investigate any anomalies and prepare general journal entries to adjust accounts and reports to appropriate amounts. Distribute reviewed financial reports to management together with narrative comments to assist in understanding important results and trends.

· Financial Analysis:

· Coordinate with the dealership Controller / Dealer Principle to establish major economic objectives and policies for the dealership and collaborate in the preparation of periodic financial, statistical, and graphical reports that summarize the dealership’s financial position and results of operations for each accounting period.

· Collaborate with the dealership Controller / Dealer Principle to assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.

· Execute dealer management system reports to generate statistical information for submission to the HDMC. Submit financial and statistical data to the HDMC using dealership management system features.

· Prepare special financial analyses as directed by management.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Supervise the day-to-day work of accounting assistants and/or bookkeepers; also assisting in the preparation of financial and statistical reports; preparation of budgets, projections, and forecasts of all group owned dealerships.

· Frequently works on the computer in a typical office environment.

Working Conditions:

· Is potentially exposed to battery acid, gasoline, chemical cleaning materials or other toxic materials commonly found in a motor vehicle service department.

· Occasionally, exposed to loud noise, exhaust fumes or other airborne particles.
