Job Summary


Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM) is looking for an energetic candidate to lead the Veterinary Nursing academic advising team. The Assistant Director of Academic Advising will be responsible for the strategic vision of the academic advising program for both our residential and distance learning students, leading and supervising a team of academic advisors, and providing guidance to students on academic and career planning. This position reports to the Director of Student Services. The pay for this position is between $68,000 - $75,000 per year based on experience.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage the academic advising program: develop, implement, and evaluate academic advising policies, procedures, and practices. Ensure that the program is student-centered, supportive, and responsive to student needs. Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop academic advising strategies that align with PVM goals.
  • Develop shared goals, supervise, and evaluate academic advisors. Provide ongoing professional development and support to the advising team. Ensure that advisors are knowledgeable about academic policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Advise a caseload of students on academic and career planning. Assist students in developing academic plans that align with their personal and career goals. Help students understand academic policies, procedures, and requirements. Encourage students to explore academic and career opportunities that match their interests and skills.
  • Collaborate with PVM faculty, staff, and administrators as well as with other campus partners to develop programs and services that support student success. Collaborate with Student Services to develop programs that promote student engagement, retention, and success.
  • Use technology to support the advising process. Utilize Banner and other software to track student progress, develop academic plans, and communicate with students. Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and identify opportunities to use technology to improve the advising process.

Required

  • Master’s Degree +4 years’ experience in academic advising.

Preferred:

  • At least one year managing or supervisory experience—experience managing or supervising hybrid and remote employees helpful.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
