The Lake Superior Research Institute has been with the UWS campus for over 55 years. We are dedicated to conducting environmental research that benefits the people, industries and natural resources of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes Region. POSITION:
Research Specialist: Chemist, 100%, Academic Staff, Renewable, 12-month Appointment, 1 Vacancy


DUTIES:
Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate direction. Serves as a chemist for the Lake Superior Research Institute¿s (LSRI) Great Waters Research Collaborative (GWRC) program and other projects.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor¿s degree in chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Experience collecting, preparing, and analyzing water samples using various analytical techniques and instrumentation.
  • Experience calibrating and operating laboratory equipment (e.g., dissolved oxygen meter, pH meter, conductivity meter).
  • Valid Driver¿s License


This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship. A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • 2 years of post-degree research experience in water chemistry, environmental science, or natural resources.
  • Experience with operation of analytical instrumentation such as: total organic carbon analyzer, UV-Vis spectroscopy, ion chromatography, atomic absorption spectroscopy, specific ion electrodes.
  • Experience collecting and preparing water samples in the field.
  • Experience applying quality assurance/quality control requirements for successful analysis.
  • Experience following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and test plans.
  • Experience with technical audits.
  • Experience maintaining thorough, well-organized written and electronic records.
  • Experience proofing and summarizing data.
  • Experience calibrating and operating chemistry field instruments, such as a multiparameter sonde.
  • Experience assisting the lead author with technical reports.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

Salary range for this position is: $38,000 - $41,000 annually. Specific benefit information can be found here. A snap-shot of benefits offered for this position include:
