The Contractor shall provide support with laboratory experiments in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories and thus must hold and maintain BPRP status, IAW the provisions in this contract and applicable regulations. The Contractor shall aid in the execution of scientific studies, basic cell culture, and plaque assays, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and other assays, animal procedures, collection/data analyzing, and maintain laboratory and laboratory equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Support small and large animal studies in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories
  • Perform inoculations with virus, vaccine, or applicable testing material
  • Collect tissues for processing and conduct blood sample collection
  • Perform in vitro testing of candidate vaccines and therapeutic compounds against a variety of viruses
  • Prepare cell culture media and other study supplies, including paperwork, as necessary
  • Perform immunological procedures including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Western Blot assays
  • Perform basic cell culture, plaque assays (PA), plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT), PCR, and other assays to support NHP and rodent studies
  • Perform basic lab management duties, such as assessing, maintaining, and ordering lab supplies
  • Assist with annual conduct of Equipment Inventory Management in BSL-2 and BSL-3
  • May serve as a BSL-2 mentor
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

  • This position will not have supervisory authority

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1+ years lab experience
  • US citizenship

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with basic Molecular Biology Assays: ELISA, Western Blot, Plaque Assays, PRNT assays, PCR, etc.
  • Experience with animal handling for large and small animals, including NHPs and rodents
  • Ability to perform animal inoculations, blood and tissue collection, and sample processing
  • Working knowledge/ability to learn GFEBs ordering system
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Multi-task in a high paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 biocontainment labs preferred
  • Ability obtain and maintain BPRP status

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is conducted in a climate-controlled office or laboratory
  • Work in biocontainment laboratory with required personal protective equipment
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for participation in the BPRP

    Estimated Starting Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 annually
