Quality Control Inspector


The primary objective of this position is to perform testing and recording to ensure quality standards are maintained in raw and finished product. Interfaces with appropriate plant employees to provide process and quality control information.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate with and perform testing for UL Inspectors
  • Keep logs of tests as well as build a data base, learn how, why and when to interpret and apply the data as it applies to the manufacturing process
  • Test raw materials periodically to ensure specifications are in compliance – filler, sand, granules
  • Help analyze process upsets
  • Basic understanding of the process equipment used in this facility
  • Ability to use the lab specific and manufacturing software in the lab
  • Be able to run lab tests with safe and accurate results
  • Be able to identify and communicate quality issues, explain P&QA testing and lab equipment in the manufacturing process, tour groups, and others who may visit the facility
  • Be responsible for visually checking and keeping lab in the correct working condition. Keep the area clean and organized.
  • Monitor inventory of lab materials
  • Be responsible for assigned environmental checks including:
  • Input data logger readings into Title V system
  • Be willing and able to assist where and when needed, communicate the data collected for process changes and improvements and on line changes. @ Scrub data, weight info, test runs, process upsets, etc.
  • Work with personnel from Granville, Toledo, asphalt plants, Fiberteq, and other roofing plants.
  • Collect and prepare routine and ADHOC samples for shipment, (Bundles, Asphalt, filler, sand, etc.)
  • Learn and understand the ICBO manual to be able to describe the quality process
  • Notify your supervisor immediately of any accident, near miss accident or on-the-job injury when it occurs no matter how insignificant it may seem
  • Operate equipment only when you are trained in its use or are working with or under the direction of a qualified employee, and you are authorized to do so by your supervisor
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES


The employee should hold the following abilities:


  • Understand metric and English measurement
  • Comply with lab safety standards
  • Ability to read and understand Technical Manuals and Specification Sheets


COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES


The employee must be able to:


  • Log into and navigate Owens Corning University (OCU) and accomplish required online training routinely
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft outlook, excels, and word.
  • Ability to learn the lab software
  • Ability to learn the environmental software


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE


The employee should have the following:


  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency
  • Some manufacturing experience is helpful


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT


The employee should possess the ability to:


  • Ability to routinely lift up to 40 lbs without assistance
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 80 lbs with assistance
  • Work for up to 12 hours in extreme hold/cold manufacturing environment
  • Walk/stand on concrete floors continuously for up to 12 hours
  • Routinely ascend and descend stairs to enter work areas
  • Safeguard self with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – steel toe shoes, ear plugs, eye protection (glasses, goggles, and/or facemask) as necessary for task
  • Push/Drive floor sweeping and cleaning equipment or tools as necessary for housekeeping duties
  • Lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs) from Auto Catcher to seconds re-wrap or recycle/trash receptacle
  • Ability to rotate and work shift work
