Position Summary

Performs a variety of imaging procedures that may include CT/Radiology/DEXA procedures, and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Ensures proper protocols and dose management procedures are followed for all CT scans in facility. Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates in CQI activities. Functions at the level of CT Technologist in the performance of these duties.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and the use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns, and extraneous radiation to patients.

2. Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.

3. Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures. Places IVs for procedures.

4. Works under the direction of the radiologist at all times.

5. Takes x-ray and CT back up call according to monthly schedule after the closing of the regular department hours.

6. Assesses, evaluates, and informs physician of changes in patient's condition during an exam.

7. Completes all work before clocking out and leaving.

8. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.

9. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.

10. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination, documents any deviation.

11. Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams and different contrast materials.

12. Interacts professionally with patient/family.

13. Ascertains patient understanding of process and informed consent.

14. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment, never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction.

15. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general population.

16. Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.

17. Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.

Competencies

1. Basic computer knowledge.

2. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

3. Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.

4. Knowledgeable of most major CT equipment.

5. Ability to use appropriate discretion in handling confidential information and materials.

Supervisory Responsibility

None.

Requirements:


Required Education and Experience

1. Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology required.

2. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography and Computed Tomography.

3. Current LSRT State license required.

4. BCLS certification required (or must be obtained within 6 months of hire).

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Bachelor degree preferred.

2. 5 years of radiologic/CT experience preferred.
