POSITION TITLE: Youth Program Supervisor

STATUS: Seasonal
SALARY RANGE: $35/hr (non-benefited)
HOURS: 40hrs

SUMMARY:
The Youth Program Supervisor for the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office shall follow the chain of command policy, reporting directly to the Director of Community Engagement. The function of the Youth
Program Supervisor is to carry out youth related activities and assignments within the Community
Programs Division, specifically in the execution of the Youth Leadership Academy Program.

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Shall assist in the creation of and implement curriculum and daily scheduling of adventure based programming for the Youth Leadership Academy, and Day Programs on the Challenge Course.
  • Shall work directly with youth, parents, teachers and school officials to determine their needs, establish goals and exchanging feedback consistent with NCSO philosophies.
  • Shall assist in supervision of interns, seasonal and part-time staff.
  • Shall work collaboratively with internal and external parties to schedule and plan activities.
  • Shall represent and NCSO in a professional and positive manner.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Human Services Preferred
  • Project Adventure certification preferred
  • Must be able to attend Project Adventure certification prior to start of Youth Leadership

Academy

  • Demonstrated skills working with Middle School aged youth
  • Good communication and teaching skills
  • Physically able to run, catch and throw in order to lead activity based education programs
  • Ability to climb ladders and other objects up to a height of 50 feet using safety equipment
  • Training and experience in (or potential to learn) the correct use of ‘Challenge Course’ critical safety equipment
  • Training and experience (or potential to learn) operating Challenge Course equipment
  • Training and experience in (or potential to learn) rescuing stranded climbers at heights of up to 50 feet. Pre-requisites include: o Remain calm under pressure o Physical strength and agility to perform rescue operations at height o Advanced comfort level with heights and safety equipment
  • Flexibility and willingness to work hours to suit the variety of programs offered
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather, including rain and extremes of temperature

JOB ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed mainly outside in a camp environment supervising children and councilors
  • Operates computer, telephone, facsimile machine, copier, printer, calculator, and other standard office equipment.
  • Employee has frequent contact with the general public, other NSCO departments, staff and officials, State and Federal agencies. Contacts are in person, by telephone, and by email and involve an information exchange dialogue.
  • Oversees seasonal staff in camp environment

HOURS:
40 hours per week. Flexible schedule, and possible weekend hours. Specific schedule will reflect the needs of the department.
