Summary: The Welder's primary responsibility is the welding of steel parts. This is fitting and welding according to print or verbal instructions. You must pass the Fabrication department fit weld test as well as the blueprint reading portion. It is usually a pass/fails test with a time limit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Able to hold and maintain close tolerance and dimensional accuracy
  • This level makes jigs and fixtures, rigs and slings own work or helps with others, knows some inspection as well as layout for fitting
  • Can help with or make several frames for all divisions, conveyors and medium sized weldments such as motor platforms, pallet feeders, smaller main frames, channel or I-beam weldments for tracks.
  • Paperwork accuracy and delivery are key components to this job. Matching prints with parts and a visual inspection for quality/quantity is necessary
  • Capable of intermediate print reading
  • Can perform intermediate lay out
  • Ability to utilize all shop tools
  • Able to safely rig and move parts and weldments
  • Able to frame up small guards and small parts to print
  • Able to straighten effectively with hydraulic presses or flame
  • Straight edge and tolerances, and how to understand flatness

Knowledge, skills and/or abilities:

  • Ability to apply basic math skills - fractions/decimal equivalents
  • Able to read tape measure to 1/32 of an inch
  • Can demonstrate safe use of overhead crane, jib crane, chain, sling and magnet rigging and lifting of remnants, half plates and full plates of different thicknesses
  • Ability to manufacture small simple weldments to print tolerance and examples include: small simple guard fabrication, repair work, small parts both hand built and fixture, welding of smaller fitted weldments
  • May help with inspection work of either measuring or pick up repair work
  • Shear operation
  • Can hold tolerances to .030, knows flatness and straightness tolerances and how to maintain them

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Vocational or Tech School degree or equivalent experience
  • Industrial Math (Clark MATH 085 or equivalent) preferred
  • Blueprint Reading for Welders (Clark WELD 110 or equivalent) preferred
  • Oxy-acetylene and Shielded Metal Arc Lab (Clark WELD 112 or equivalent)
  • Blueprint Reading for Welders (Clark WELD 110 or equivalent)
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding Theory and Lab (Clark 113 and 114 or equivalent)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $31.00 per hour
