Schedule: Monday - Friday 7am-3:30pm

Description:

Waste Treatment Operator in the Simpsonville, South Carolina location. Operate and maintain the Industrial Physical Chemical & Biological Waste Treatment plant to include but not limited to, treatment, sludge processing and disposal equipment in treatment plant to control flow and processing of discharged materials. Normal hours are 7a to 3:30p, Monday through Friday. Must be flexible to work off-shift hours as needed to cover team members time off.

  • Follow safety rules, procedures and MSDS guidelines including wearing required PPE.
  • Demonstrate a positive, team-spirited, can-do attitude. Be a productive tram member.
  • Operates and maintains wastewater treatment, sludge processing, and handling equipment.
  • Tends pumps, conveyors, blowers, ultra-filter, vacuum filters, and other equipment.
  • Collects samples and makes routine chemical analyses of wastewater at various points in the plant process.
  • Monitor control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate the flow of wastewater through settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
  • Reads and interprets charts, flow meters, and other gauges to determine operating efficiency of equipment.
  • Lubricate pumps, valves, and other equipment. Repair equipment when necessary.
  • Maintain logs, records, and reports relative to the work. Read and follow operating procedures including sequencing of opening and closing valves and pumps.
  • Effectively communicate operating status to other shifts and management as needed to maintain efficient operation. Lead shift change hand-off with incoming shift.
  • Load correct quantity of needed treatment raw materials; monitor processes utilizing instruments/gauges; adjust process both manually and with computerized controls; assure finish treated product meets quality specifications.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned including those to assure safe, efficient operations of the plant.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma.
  • Physical/Chemical Wastewater Operator License “B” or higher.
  • H.B. Fuller pays for ongoing, required continuing education to maintain the license and for costs related to advancing to an A license.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative, team environment and effectively turn over shift to next shift
  • Must have ability to wear required PPE: respirator, chemical protective suit, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.
  • Must be able to work off-shifts and infrequent weekends as needed to cover other team members time off and special projects.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow procedures and safety rules
  • Demonstrated attention to detail to including following procedures and documenting process information
  • Ability to operate typical wastewater laboratory equipment.
  • Basic understanding of computer such as Microsoft Windows operating system.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities to resolve workplace process problems.
  • Sense of urgency and ability to complete multiple tasks in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelors in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology or similar
  • 5 years or more working in a Wastewater Treatment facility
  • Class A license in Physical/Chemical AND Biological wastewater treatment, recognized by the state of South Carolina.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience: prior Team Lead, Supervisor or Manager experience

Physical Environment:

  • Works in cold and hot temperatures, varies by season and work area.
  • Loud environment that at times requires hearing protection
  • Occasional lifting bags/boxes/equipment up to 60lbs. Repetitive lifting of less than 50lbs
  • Climbing ladders, working on platforms to tend and monitor equipment and gauges
  • Handles acids/bases and treatment chemicals requiring the use of respirators and other PPE.
