Summary: To provide independent expert opinion in regards to social security disability cases. To provide the courts with clarity and insight into the vocational history and background of the claimants applying for social security benefits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend social security disability hearings in person or telephonically as required
• Prepare a vocational analysis of the claimants past work
• Provide advice to the claimant‘s attorney or non-attorney representative as well as the Administrative Law Judge concerning vocational aspects of the claimant's previous work history
• Provide accurate, consistent and impartial opinions and recommendations regarding work that may exist in the national economy based on a set of limitations and restrictions
• Ensure that all comments/advice given to the Court is within your own personal knowledge or expertise
• Advise the Court when requests or questions are beyond the expertise of a vocational expert
• Manage your own workload within the timescales and deadlines agreed
• Review any instructions/documentation upon receipt and inform Midwest VRS if there is a conflict of interest regarding your case assignments within 24 hours
• Review and complete vocational report within required timeframe
• Respond to all communication from the office promptly and professionally
• Submit weekly call orders via email/fax to Midwest VRS
• Seek advice from supervisor/mentor as required, in terms of vocational issues and in terms of the management of the case files or invoicing concerns
• Take advantage and participate in as many training opportunities and annual conferences to develop your skills within your specialized area

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Master's degree required
• CRC designation required
• Minimum of 5 years working as Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor
• Knowledge using the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, Occupational Outlook Handbook, O*NET
• Understands labor market trends/Conduct transferable skills analysis
• Ability to support opinion/recommendations with sound vocational reasoning as well as the evidence made available
• Must have the ability to project a professional image. Must be able to interact with lawyers, medical experts, and other professionals confidently and appropriately.
• Ability to pay attention to detail in relation to your assessment and in relation to all written work.
• Ability to be flexible in terms of your working hours and days, particularly in terms of last-minute Court cancellations/deadlines/additional work etc.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Pay: From $45.00 per hour
