Position Summary: Victim Service Advocate

Department: General Town

Reports: Participant Services Supervisor

Position Summary
The Victim Service Advocate for the Greater Illinois Reimagine Violence Prevention Services program will engage eligible participants and families in providing immediate in-person support and advocacy. The victim service team responds to incidences of community violence and assists the victim through any arrangements needed following the violence experienced (hospital visits, planning funeral services, crisis counseling, etc..). Provides support for families when interacting with police or agencies regarding to their case. Victim Service Advocates have a focus on developing the trust between the victims or family members by empowering them with skills, services, and opportunities.

Responsibilities/Performance Requirements:

  • Responding to incidences of community violence (non-fatal shootings, fatal shootings, other acts of violence, etc.) within specific community areas
  • Uphold consistent attendance and punctuality as part of the rapid response team and follow up (24 hours/7 days) within one hour of incident notification through in-person interaction or phone call
  • Maintain appropriate records for caseloads of a maximum of 25 participants at any given time
  • Provide supportive interactions between victims or family members and law enforcement and/or healthcare agencies (courthouse, trials, benefit enrollment and eligibility processes, etc...)
  • Conducting regular weekly support groups with victims and families.
  • Provide in-person, video, and telephonic outreach and care coordination to participants and families
  • Actively plan, schedule and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools
  • Track, develop, and deliver case logs for program reports, projects, schedules, and deliverables/benchmarks accurately and with substance to Participant Service Supervisor
  • Work with the Community Engagement Supervisor to implement community engagement events and ensure the programs development and implementation maintain a diversity, equity, and inclusion racial justice plan
  • Collaborate with outreach workers, case managers, and other departments and follow Joliet

Township Government policies/procedures

  • Participate in staff training meetings, conferences, and other events as approved by higher-level management
  • Assist in and participate in annual site evaluations, training, and in the development and planning of additional community impact programs related to the work of the Joliet Township Government
  • Provide referral through IRIS for wrap around service provisions for patients, track and report monthly referral outcomes to supervisor.

  • Performs other related tasks as required or assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expressive and receptive communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and competently.
  • Adeptness with multitasking.
  • Computer literacy including keyboarding ability and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
  • Is open and respectful of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and is willing and competent to work with a diverse client population.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social work or relevant fieldwork experience utilizing effective, trauma informed interventions with verifiable references.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation are required.
  • Strong computer skills are required.

WORK CONDITIONS: This position may require work on weekends, evenings, and nights.

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience between $40,000 and $45,000
