DUTIES: Institutional Shareholder Services Inc. seeks Vice President, Database Administration in Rockville, MD, to lead database team for projects in area of Automation, Tuning, and Architect High Availability solutions across various ISS’ products. Train peers to extend knowledge in PowerShell scripting, tools like Foglight, Jenkins, GitHub, GitLab and Performance Tuning. Facilitate installing, managing, and troubleshooting SQL Server, Oracle, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB. Automate installation via PowerShell and configuration of Database Management Systems. Act as a Technical Lead for Database Automation and HA/DR solutions projects includes AlwaysOn Group, Replication, Mirroring, Clustering and Log Shipping. Assure RPO and RTO as per business agreement. Extensive knowledge on Performance Tuning, Query Rewrite, Index design, strong understanding of JOINs and Optimizer Engine in SQL Server, Oracle, MariaDB and Postgresql. Utilize strong knowledge on resolution for frequent Blocking and Deadlocks situation. Able to understand lock escalation and tune databases to minimize locking. Facilitate migration of Data Center for Database Servers. Design, document, and promote security "best practices", policy standards and protocols. Work with Table Partitioning to handle large TB data and hence performance enhancement. Utilize expertise in PowerShell scripting for monitoring SQL Servers and create reports for DBA and Developer leads. Maintain and automate routine tasks. Handle performance issues, provide recommendations for resolution using DMVs, Trace, SQL Server configuration values, Server configuration, Query plans, Indexes, and third-party tools. Perform day to day database activities which includes database backup/restore, security policies, production releases. Facilitate SSIS and SSRS migration, preparing reports with SSRS for monitoring. Plan and install upgrades of database management system software to enhance database performance. Stay updated with Microsoft latest patches and fixes. Act as a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist. Utilize tools and technologies like PowerShell Automation, T-SQL scripts and tuning, Jenkins CI/CD tools, Git, HA/DR solutions, Database Redesign & Architect, Project Management. Expertise on Cloud Database Administration includes AWS, Microsoft Azure, and migration from cloud to on premise and vice a versa. Automate repetitive tasks by scripting codes in Python, PowerShell, T-SQL languages. Develop database architectural strategies at the modeling, design, and implementation stages to address business or industry requirements on SQL Server, MariaDB, PostgreSQL databases. Design, Implement and Manage CI/CD Automation for ISS proprietary Database Deployments using Flyway, Jenkins, GitHub, GitLab and PowerShell scripting.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or related occupation: providing database administration for SQL Server, Oracle, Postgress, MariaDB, in Amazon Web Services (AWS) including managing and optimizing Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) instances; building and setting up new development tools and infrastructure for database automation utilizing Jenkins, GitLab, and Flyway; performing Database Tuning including rewriting queries, index analysis, analyzing performance traces, and using query store; performing database design using entity relationship diagrams including ERWIN and REDGET; and providing Database packaging and reporting with SQL Server Integration Services and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSIS, SSRS) and machine learning.
