Overview:
Greenwich Animal Hospital is adding an Experienced Veterinary Technician or Certified Veterinary Technician to be an important member of our team.

Location: 430 West Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830

Compensation: $34 - $38 depending on experience

Shift Details: NO WEEKENDS!

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include all aspects of patient care, including surgery prep and recovery, radiology, blood draws, cytology, dentistry (including dental radiology), administering medication and treatments as prescribed by the doctors, and client communication. Licensed Veterinary Technician's will also administer and monitor anesthesia, place IV catheters and perform subgingival scaling on dental patients. The ideal candidate will:
  • Accurately perform medical math calculations including drug dosages and fluid rates.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Show initiative to continue his/her education and have excellent follow-through skills.
  • Be able to negotiate with difficult people and problem solve.
  • Stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis
  • Enjoy working with people and animals and be able to deal with animals even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
  • Be flexible in attitude and work habits.
  • Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals up to 40 pounds (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, walking/standing for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position.
Qualifications:
Physical demands and work environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of a coworker. Requires sufficient ambulatory skills.
  • Able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
  • Employee is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
  • Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information with all clients and team members.
