We are a progressive veterinary medicine clinic serving pet owners throughout North Central Washington. Cascade Veterinary Clinics (CVC) was founded in 1964. We are growing. Currently, we are a team of 15 veterinarians – plus more than 50 technicians and support staff – in three locations including Wenatchee, Leavenworth, and East Wenatchee. Together, we provide extensive services, advanced treatment methods, and convenient access for our patients, while building reliable and personalized relationships with our clients. CVC is also creating an alternative path to licensure for veterinary technicians in the State of Washington. Job Description:

Cascade Veterinary Clinics in Wenatchee is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant. Patient care is the primary objective of this role. They give voice to the animals in need and help build relationships between the client and the Medical Team with consistent and concise communication. This position plays a key role in the client experience throughout the clinic visit and assists the veterinarian in providing the most progressive and compassionate care for patients while building personalized relationships within the Cascade client community.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides compassionate patient care, keeping patients clean, dry, and comfortable.
  • Must have dependable and reliable attendance.
  • Recognizes patients with contagious diseases and follows hospital protocol for proper handling.
  • Performs safe and effective patient restraint.
  • Walks, cleans, and feeds patients.
  • Bathes patients as needed.
  • Assists with and documents patient treatments.
  • Ensures patients leave in a better condition than when they arrived, ensuring they are clean with IV catheter removed, etc.
  • Sets up and assists with procedures, such as IV catheterization, blood draws, and other common treatments.
  • Keeps hospital clean through the removal of trash from hospital, sweeping, and mopping of floors throughout the day as needed and on assigned nightly duties.
  • Monitors medical supplies and ensures all supplies are sufficiently stocked.
  • Launders soiled blankets, towels, and other linens.
  • Cleans instruments and supplies used throughout the day and stores them in proper locations.
  • Maintains positive cooperative relationships with other employees.
  • Aids in and performs tech appointments, including nail trims, anal gland expressions, suture removal and drain removal.
  • Reviews patient medical records thoroughly, and initiates treatments as advised by technicians or doctors.
  • Performs fluid administration and injections as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Cares for and monitors the conditions of animals recovering from procedures.
  • Employs proper safety techniques and positioning to assist with radiological procedures.
  • Cleans surgical instruments, assembles surgical packs, and sterilizes all equipment for surgical use.
  • Performs basic emergency care, CPR, and intensive care under the supervision of a veterinarian or technician.
  • Maintains knowledge of usage, dosage, and side effects for commonly used prescription drugs.
  • Ability to run in-house laboratory equipment, including the setup of fecal floats and urinalysis.
  • Promptly, accurately, and efficiently completes medical records and callbacks.
  • Assists with patient admits and releases, as necessary.
  • Utilizes in-house inventory control procedures to ensure items are stocked appropriately.
  • Knowledge and ability to check in and check out clients.
  • Ability to explain and process payments such as cash, checks, Care Credit, or other methodologies.
  • Ability to schedule, cancel, or reschedule appointments.
  • Ability to utilize a multi-line phone system and practice management software.
  • Performs other duties as assigned per clinic location.

Minimum Qualifications & Educational/Training Requirements:

  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Personal Requirements:

  • Experience (1+ years) in veterinarian medicine required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have a willingness to learn humbly.
  • Ability to work within a team setting, as well as possessing self-motivation.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have a clean and professional appearance.
  • Must be available weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Must have reliable transportation to work at any of the facilities.
  • Must have dependable and reliable attendance.
  • Must be able to identify with and exemplify the Shared Values of Cascade Veterinary Clinic.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be comfortable with animals, disruptive noises, and strong odors.
  • Work in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Work requires transporting and handling heavy objects or animals (assisted by other staff members with objects or animals over 40 lbs.).
  • Must be able to position yourself accordingly (generally at floor level) for patient care.

Compensation:

  • A competitive base pay of $16.50 to $20.50 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Pay differentials for bilingual candidates, weekend shifts, & on-call and overnight shifts.

  • Flexible schedule with rotating shifts, Sunday through Saturday, between 6:30am-10pm
