Jacobs is the world’s top supplier of automotive test facilities, providing a full range of services to commercial automotive industry customers
. Customers include not only the world’s major vehicle providers and other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), but also clients from the international motor sports community.

Jacobs is currently seeking a Vehicle Software Technician for the Vehicle Test Facility in Allen Park, MI. THIS POSITION INCLUDES A $750. SIGNING BONUS


BRIEF OUTLINE OF SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Perform validation tests on vehicles/subsystems
  • Review vehicle subsystem performance through review of technical specifications and owners/operating manuals
  • Follow test scripts to verify subsystems operate to design intent
  • Follow scripted testing and support development of independent test strategies
  • Monitor vehicle response and log data through in-vehicle data bus/data acquisition software
  • Isolate and log vehicle anomalies and document test information

Here’s What You’ll Need:


MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND /OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with computer programs (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
    • Excel VBA a plus
  • Knowledgeable of cell phone and navigation operating systems
  • Knowledgeable about automotive parts, subsystems and vehicle functions
  • Able to drive/operate manual and automatic vehicles
  • Comfortable with changes in direction
  • Able to follow procedures and documents
  • Able to work first or second shifts
  • Valid drivers’ license

Desired

  • Strong understanding of voltage, current, resistance and electric circuits.
  • Able to understand and troubleshoot vehicle systems
  • Some knowledge of CAN protocol (Messages, signals, MS, HS) or On Board Diagnostics (OBD)
  • Has some experience with data loggers or CAN tools (intrepid, vector, PUMA, ELM37)
  • Experience with data acquisition systems
  • Previous vehicle or subsystem testing experience
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.

Criticality of Attendance

  • Overtime, regular days, off days: Dayshift Monday-Friday but must be able to support our flexible test schedule into other shifts and/or weekends
  • Shift, 1st, 2nd, 3rd: Dayshift
  • Necessity for regular attendance: Critical, 100%
  • Urgency for punctuality: Critical, 100%
  • Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday-Friday. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary. Must have flexibility of work days to cover weekend testing requirements.

Other Essential Functions

  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, health performance evaluation, and background check.
  • Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers.
  • Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. I
  • ndependent personal transportation to office or work site is required.
  • Travel to and from customer’s locations and the test fields may be required to support projects.
  • This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary.
  • When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
