The Vehicle Maintenance Technician Class I will perform scheduled and unscheduled vehicle maintenance repairs and service to satisfy compliance with vehicle warranties and assist with maintaining Company or Client fleet as required. The Vehicle Maintenance Technician Class I will also be responsible for assisting with facility clean-up and organization, and for communicating the status of repairs and parts needed in a computerized Maintenance management system using the 3 “C” s.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for maintenance, service, diagnosing, & repair of MTM Transit and Capitol Metro owned vehicles
  • Areas of repair to include but not limited to automotive vehicle, light duty truck, powertrains, undercarriage/ chassis, electronic and electrical equipment, air conditioning/heating systems, vehicle accessories, and equipment drivability and diagnosis of wheelchair lifts
  • Perform on the road repairs (Road Calls) as needed
  • Ensure all data is collected in the computerized maintenance management system collecting the complaints, causes, corrective actions and all labor and parts used
  • Ensure electronic repair work orders are completed correctly
  • Ensure appropriate communication of repairs and parts
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced skills in computer diagnostics and repairs
  • Demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behavior related to such
  • Ability to attend safety and vehicle repair course as may be required
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required
  • Willing to follow all company policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Be drug free and subject to Random Drug and Alcohol Testing as required
  • Provide own tools to include some diagnostic and specialty tools
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Regular attendance is required

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Automotive courses from automotive institute preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of 5 year’s automotive mechanical experience
  • Must have certifications and or proof of training in the following Areas:
    • MFG Specific or ASE Certs
    • Suspension and Steering (A4)
    • Brake system (A5)
    • Heating and A/C (A7)
    • PMI inspection certified
    • Refrigerant (609 certified)
  • Experience using hand and power tools, machinery, sophisticated test and diagnostic equipment related to automotive repair


Working
Conditions

  • May require work outside in cold or hot weather, or in buildings that are uncomfortable because the air- conditioning or heating equipment is broken
  • This job operates in a professional Shop environment
  • May be subject to adverse weather conditions during times of travel
  • May be required to work evenings/weekends based on business needs

Physical Requirements

  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a DOT Physical (Non-Driver)
  • Must be able to communicate with others and comprehend instructions
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers
  • Must be able to move around an office environment
  • Able to bend, stoop, crawl, and reach above their head
  • Must be ability to lift 50lbs
  • Requires close visual acuity when operating a computer
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle


OTHER

  • May require weekends and Holidays
  • May be required to drive a company or rental vehicle (failure to pass an annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background screen may result in termination of employment)
  • Must pass a DOT Physical annually
