Job description

SMX is seeking a Senior Unix Administrator Team Lead to lead a group of UNIX/Linux Systems Administrators at the China Lake Data Center (CLDC). The ideal candidate will ensure that all systems on Department of Defense (DoD) networks are appropriately patched and configured to the organizationally defined hardening policies and Service Desk incidents and service requests are resolved and closed in a timely manner as well as work on ad-hoc projects involving different systems and applications across the Data Center.

This position requires a DoD security clearance which requires US citizenship for work on a DoD contract.

Responsibilities

  • Leading technical responses of outages and performance degradations
  • Providing status communication to clients
  • Assigning service tickets to staff
  • Lead meetings with current and incoming customers for technical advice on proposed projects
  • Lead and motivate staff to high levels of productivity through Servant Leadership
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members
  • Responsible for leading a SA team patching efforts for Dev/Test, Production, and Infrastructure patching windows across multiple DoD Enclaves
  • Responsible for assisting with the mentoring and training UNIX/Linux Systems Administrators on completing tasks and implementing modern technologies within CLDC
  • Work collaboratively with other Data Center teams to provide Unix/Linux based solutions to meet business requirements
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of Ansible playbooks and other administrative shell scripting
  • Effectively analyze and resolve problems involving interaction between applications, server hardware/firmware/OS and storage by working with cross functional teams and equipment vendors with minimal supervision
  • Effectively interact with peers, management, and the CLDC customer in a constantly evolving environment to ensure a positive customer experience and atmosphere in the workplace

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proficient Experience with UNIX/LINUX operating systems including Oracle Linux 7/8, RHEL7/RHEL8
  • Knowledge of DoD Information Assurance practices, including Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and Risk Management Framework (RMF) process
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining the integrity and security of a Unix/Linux environment
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple assignments autonomously and in a team setting
  • Proficient with clear and concise verbal and written communication
  • Effectively interact with peers, management, and the CLDC customer in a constantly evolving environment to ensure a positive customer experience and atmosphere in the workplace

Required Certification/Education

  • Ability to obtain a DOD Top Secret Clearance Eligibility
  • Comptia Security+
  • Vendor OS certification of Linux
  • Minimum of 5 years of related IT experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of IT leadership experience

Desired Qualifications

  • SOALRIS experience
  • A Senior-level SA
  • Experience with Oracle Middleware products (OAM, Forms and Reports, Etc.)
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) exposure
  • Experience with Ansible, Ansible Tower, and administrative shell scripting
  • Bachelor's Degree
