Responsibilities:
Palmdale Regional Medical Center serves the region by providing high quality medical services to residents of the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities. Palmdale Regional Medical Center’s new Labor and Delivery unit – The Birth Place – is now open! The 33,000-square-foot unit features 25 private patient rooms, six labor/delivery/recovery suites and two surgical suites. The Rehabilitation Institute, the hospital features 184 licensed acute care beds as well as inpatient and outpatient surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, cardiac servicesfeaturing a STEMI Receiving Center (heart attack) and a 35-bed 24-hour emergency department. Palmdale Regional Medical Center believes in "Community Service Excellence" and supports nonprofit agencies such as the American Cancer Society, United Way, the Antelope Valley Boys and Girls Club and performing arts organizations. Essential Job Duties:
Reporting to the Director of Maternal Child Health and the supervisor in Maternal Child Health, the unit secretary orders and maintains sufficient office supplies for the unit. Executes paperwork for patient admissions, birth certificates, and discharges. Transcribes physicians orders accurately. Communicates census changes to nursing supervisor. Answers telephone calls to unit and makes necessary calls. Completes other assignments as directed by the Nurse Manager or Director of Maternal Child Health.
Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Ability to read and sufficiently speak and write English for communication and charting purposes. Ability to interpret physician’s orders. Ability to write reports
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment(s) required by the facility.
  • Minimum of one (1) year prior Unit Secretary experience in a health care setting preferred. Excellent typing ability, thorough computer skills; proper telephone and interpersonal skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Medical terminology course and computer education preferred.
  • BLS (current upon hire)
  • CPI is required within 30 days of hire.
