Patient Care Director, Inpatient Rehab Unit (IRC)


This professional RN is responsible for the 24 hour management of the Intermediate Care Unit. Develops patient care services goals, objectives, standards of performance, policies and procedures; organizes the department in accordance with the hospital's mission and vision statements in order to provide specified nursing services to meet the legal, organizational, and medical staff guidelines. Evaluates proposed procedural changes as they relate to patient care, directs/supervises the implementation, and ensures compliance with Standards of Nursing Practice that promote optimum health care delivery.

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center (IRC) at Virginia Hospital Center is a 20-bed CARF-accredited acute inpatient rehabilitation unit. Our goal is to provide the highest level of quality care with a focus on individualized treatment. As a member of the team, the patient and his/her family will help to set his/her goals to restore function and quality of life. Our patient population consists of Medical/Surgical patients who have suffered disabling conditions requiring acute, inpatient physical rehabilitation. Common diagnoses can include: CVA, amputees, bilateral total joint replacements, spinal cord injury, multiple trauma, traumatic brain injury, and neurologic diagnoses such as Parkinson's disease, guillian barré, multiple sclerosis, etc. The IRC uses multidisciplinary nursing, medical, and therapy care to meet the individual needs of each patient.

Qualifications:
  • Degree from a qualified nursing school, BSN and MSN preferred.
  • Current Virginia State license or eligible for licensure.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant nursing experience and demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Membership in at least one professional organization.
Responsibilities:
  • Monitors variances to the monthly budget and makes appropriate recommendations and adjustments to meet expenditure guidelines. Addresses and communicates variances to appropriate management.
  • Consistently reviews patient survey results to identify feedback, sustain a high performance environment, and lead targeted improvements to deliver exceptional patient experiences.
  • Interview and hire staff according to department standards and hospital policy.
  • Develops, monitors, evaluates, and documents Continuous Quality Improvement activities in accordance with hospital, state, and The Joint Commission standards. Implements change according to results in coordination with appropriate leadership.
  • Develop and meet accountability standards.
  • Monitor and ensure nursing practice is in accordance with the guidelines set by the regulatory agencies, i.e., OSHA, JCAHO and VHIR.
  • Interpret overall philosophy and objectives of nursing service to staff. Supervise and manage staff guided by patient care services policy and procedure, and specialty standards.
