The Hartford is seeking a candidate WITH P&C Commercial Insurance experience who has the drive and ambition to be a successful Middle Market Underwriter, who after the completion of our SOAR training program. This underwriter would be responsible for the following:
- Underwriting a Middle Market book of business, including New Business and Renewals
- Applying applicable Underwriting guidelines when making decisions
- Agency Management including creating, driving and execution of strategies for new and/or renewal accounts (prospective book management, executes on the mix strategy, low strategy, territorial and agency sales plans, etc.)
- Acts as a trusted advisor and solution provider to The Hartford’s appointed Brokers and Agents
Qualifications:
- Candidate must have a minimum of 3+ of Commercial Insurance experience; those with the following P&C Commercial Insurance backgrounds will be considered: Claims, Account Management/Underwriting Assistant, Risk Engineering/ Loss Control, Commercial Insurance Sales, or Broker/Agency experience.
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid internal and external relationships
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions
- High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit
- Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills
- Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes
- Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win
- Strong sales skills with the ability to negotiate and sell all messages including with those that may be difficult
- Acts with a sense of urgency and is responsive to internal and external customer needs
- Position title and tier will be determined upon careful review of selected candidate's qualifications

Selected candidate must be located in the Seattle region with the ability to travel within the assigned region given the broker facing sales nature of this role; approximately 25% travel.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$92,800 - $139,200
