FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

SUMMARY: A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (Ultrasound Tech) provides diagnostic guest care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. Responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Also responsible for equipment maintenance, reporting failures and quality assessments. Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.

· Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images

· Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.

· Analyses sonograms, synthesize sonographic information, medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.

· Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the guest while they are in the sonographer’s care.

· Maintains a daily log of guest.

· Participates in the maintenance of laboratory accreditation.

· Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians when required, according to established procedures.

· Computer literacy, including but not limited to, data entry, retrieval, and report generation.

· Must not have any restrictions for physical work for which reasonable accommodation cannot be made.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Sonography education, training, and experience in the specialty area(s) to be performed.

· Demonstrated competence in the specialty area(s) to be performed, including sonographer certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

· Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning (e.g., continuing medical education in the specialty area(s) performed, higher education, research, staff training, etc.).

· Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills and software programs used for documentation activities and report generation.

· Must have and maintain current BLS certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Manual and finger dexterity.
  • Hand and eye coordination.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Standing, walking and reaching.
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
