UI/UX Designer

Compensation: $85,000 base salary + Bonus tied to company-wide goals and Product departmental goals

Your Work:

Feathr’s first UI/UX Designer will establish this product design discipline within Feathr’s product team. Reporting to the VP Product, you will be responsible for facilitating UI/UX design in many facets. From establishing and refining design standards for our existing app, to drafting mockups and user flow diagrams for new features, to producing high fidelity designs for our developers to implement – you’ll be leading the charge for improving our product’s overall aesthetic and usability.
This is Feathr's first dedicated UI/UX designer, so you'll be part of establishing, running, and maintaining our design process, strategy, principles AND execute on it.

Your Experience

  • 3+ years software design, UI/UX Design or Product Design experience

  • 2+ years of experience working as an in-house UI/UX Designer or Product Designer

  • Experience working directly with developers

  • Experience generating low fidelity and high fidelity designs that developers can easily plug into their code

Your Qualities

  • “Clouds & Dirt '' thinker. You’ll be expected to think about improving UI/UX at Feathr at a high level – like in terms of overall standards, workflow development, etc. – and get your hands dirty with day-to-day design and execution.

  • Nimble! We very much value speed and iterative improvement over more thorough and time consuming approaches.

  • Excellent communicator and collaborator. You’ll be expected to work directly with developers to help them understand designs, user flows, and concepts. You’ll be expected to consider their feedback about technical limitations, etc. and to use that to inform and refine your designs.

  • Ability to place yourself in the mind of the customer. You are designing for our customers, not necessarily according to personal or team preferences. You should be able to work with customers to understand their mindsets and reflect their desires and pain points in your work.

Your Day

  • Join and facilitate customer calls to understand workflow pain points and test designs.

  • Join product & engineering meetings to provide context and guidance around UI/UX.

  • Work with VP Product to design mockups and user flows for a new concept feature.

  • Design high fidelity mockups of an already proofed feature that is ready for dev implementation.

  • “Clean up” an existing feature/product area according to newly defined product/UI/UX design standards.

Interview Process

Written Information Screening - The Talent Acquisition Specialist will invite candidates that move forward to produce written responses to a few questions. The idea of this being a written exercise is to provide more autonomy and flexibility to candidates to complete this stage on their own schedule. These questions will be focused on relevant work experience, compensation, role overview, and answering any questions the candidate has.

Hiring Manager Screen - 1 hour virtual meeting with the Hiring Manager to answer role-specific questions and review portfolio materials

Work Assignment & Panel Interview- Candidates will be given a work assignment prompt to complete a project that is relevant to the work they can expect in the role. The completion of the assignment should not take more than 90 minutes, and candidates are given multiple days to work on the project. Proceeding completion of the assignment, candidates will participate in a 45 minute interview with three key members of the team. This interview will dive deeper into the role, technical knowledge, and requirements of the position.

Offer - The Talent Acquisition Specialist will reach out with the details of the offer to discuss with the candidate. After all the details of the informal offer are finalized, the candidate will receive their formal offer. At this time, we will run the background check.

This is also the opportunity for candidates to provide any additional information or context if there are concerns surrounding their background check. Feathr believes candidates that have made it to this point in the interview process are truly talented individuals, and so we are open to dialoguing background screens before turning away candidates that have consistently excelled through the interview process.
