The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We are seeking a Typist Advanced to join the team at the Glenwood Resource Center (GRC) in Glenwood, which offers a continuum of care to Iowans experiencing intellectual disabilities.

This is a full-time opportunity with a working schedule of 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Employees are eligible for a $1,500 retention payment for a commitment of 7 pay periods (14 weeks) and are eligible for renewal at the end of each 7 pay periods until the facility closes. The Typist Advanced provides specialized clerical and typing support to the Office of Quality Management by performing services that support processes and procedures required by the Iowa State Resource Centers Plan regulations.


  • Compile, summarize and verify quality indicator data within the treatment teams and departments.
  • Record information from program monitoring forms.
  • Enter monitoring data into the electronic record appropriately.
  • Monitor and track key facility performance data for completeness and determine conformity to established requirements.
  • Enter and verify statistical information related to quality management data.
  • Inform clinicians and teams the status of completion of monitors.
Provide clerical and typing assistance to supervisor and the Office of Quality Management.
  • Verify client records (such as incident and restraint reports) and check for completeness, accuracy, and adequacy of medical records documentation. Notify Director of Quality Management and Records Management administrator of corrections needed.
  • Compile, edit and type reports.
  • Collect data, obtain and compile records maintained in the Office of Quality Management and other GRC departments.
  • Track corrective action plans and verifications resulting from program monitoring and other identified needs.
  • Distribute quality data and information among the treatments teams and other GRC program areas across the facility. Perform related duties so that departmental needs are met in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Assist and provide back-up for office staff in typing, filing and other clerical duties.
  • Format, compile and proofread materials coming out of Quality Management to ensure accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Assist with the committees, special projects and task groups as needed. Prepare and set up materials/equipment, agendas and organize related information. Take minutes and distribute appropriately.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and experience equal to one year of full-time clerical office support work.
  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and a total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one year of post-high school course work in an accredited secretarial, business, or closely-related curriculum or 30 semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Typist.
