SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE

This position assists with the administration of the office in accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes, Elko County Code, and other laws and guidelines.

This position mainly assists with recording tax payments into the tax database in a timely manner during peak workload periods. This position can also assist the Administrative Deputy Treasurer by carrying out an assortment of special and ongoing projects.

  • This position is a Full-Time Temporary role running July 2023 through December 2023.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide general information and/or research problems for the public (in person, over the phone, email).
  • Batch and record tax payments into the tax database in a timely manner so that apportionment can be completed.
  • Use tax collection system for use of queries to extract pertinent information regarding current/delinquent taxes, locate parcel number by name, parcel number or physical address, and for the history of a parcel. Document phone (as needed) and written correspondence with taxpayers in tax database.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with co-workers and the public.
  • Comply with Elko County Policies and Department Procedures.
  • Accurately completes work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

Education and Experience

High Diploma or equivalent


Any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required
knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of related outside agencies and County Departments and the services that they provide.
  • Formal education, training, and experience with Microsoft applications.
  • Procedures, methods, and techniques of record keeping.
Skills
  • Demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills, especially in dealing with the public.
  • Managing time effectively.
Abilities
  • Operate a Windows-based computer terminal proficiently.
  • Handle large amounts of cash, counting, and making change.
  • Work effectively under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Operate a 10-key calculator with speed and accuracy.
  • Apply business mathematical skills, adding, subtracting, and figuring percentages.
  • Type with speed and accuracy.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and grammatically correct correspondence and documents.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Operate a multi-line phone system.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Work is performed in an office setting. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear; sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand or walk.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Position functions indoors in an office-type environment where most work is performed at a desk.
  • The environment is generally clean with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, noise, or odors.
  • Frequent interruptions to planned work activities occur.
