Job description

Freedom Boat Club of the Space and Treasure Coasts is seeking full-time and part-time training captains for professional training sessions at multiple Brevard locations. Work in various locations with new members excited to get on the water!

The training captain is responsible for administering a prescribed course of both off and on water instruction to members in a wide range of boating topics. New member training includes safety and planning, basic engine controls, rules of the road, and inland navigation. Advanced instruction for experienced members covers further safety and planning issues, emergency procedures, seamanship, and a check ride on the ocean. All vessels are 17-24 ft. and equipped with single outboards.

Physical Requirements

• Spend 8-10 hours on the water, often in direct sun light.
• Ability to handle both heat and cold, sometimes while wet.
• Frequently climb up and down ladders, ramps, and stairs.
• Easily move about the vessel and help members on and off.
• Ability to spot navigational aids, sand bars, and points of interest.
• Dock, tie up, and anchor without assistance.

Skills and Knowledge

• Captains license issued by US Coast Guard. OUPV acceptable.
• Excellent speaking and interpersonal skills
• Inshore and offshore boating experience
• Outstanding customer service
• Real world experience and proficiency in small boat operations
• Excellent organizational skills
• Proficient use of smart phones and tablets
• Local knowledge of Indian River and tributaries from Titusville to Vero
• Experience traversing Sebastian Inlet
• The training captain must not only have technical knowledge, but the ability to relay that knowledge to others in a positive manner.

Schedule: Trainings occur Monday- Saturday.

Locations: Cape Canaveral, Merritt Island, Melbourne, Palm Bay, Micco. 1 location visit per day.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
