Provisional Traffic Engineer I or II
The Town of Islip Traffic Safety Division is hiring a Traffic Engineer.
Typical Work Activities (External):
- Review site plans for traffic engineering standards and safety.
- Assist in inspections of traffic signals and devices.
- Assist in the development and construction of new traffic signals. Aide in the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Conduct traffic engineering studies and surveys.
- Assist Street Lighting Inspector with projects and surveys.
Internal Job Responsibilities:
- Review traffic device repairs.
- Assist in managing yearly relamping reports; survey signals and assist in the collection of photos and videos of necessary repairs.
- Review planning and development site plans for neighborhood history, and traffic engineering and safety standards.
- Assist with traffic signal installation projects as needed.
- Conduct assigned traffic studies and surveys including but not limited to traffic volumes, radar, accident information, and vehicle identification.
- Assist in making traffic engineering recommendations based on engineering data and MUTCD standards.
- Participate in activities related to roadway/parking lot lighting. Including but not limited to lighting surveys, mark out processing and follow-up, billing review/inspection, project coordination, and other related tasks.

Please note the position is on a provisional basis. The selected candidate must pass the Suffolk County Civil Service Traffic Engineer I or II exam when available.
