2nd SHIFT TOOL MAKER-MANUFACTURING

OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILTIES OF THE POSITION

Constructs and repairs jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges and progressive metal stamping dies used in stamping, shaping or forming material.
  • SAFE MACHINE OPERATION: Identify/remove slip, trip, and fall hazards. Housekeeping, equipment, and work station cleaning procedures. Understand PPE requirements. Light curtain and Machine guarding, as required. Plan and lay out work according to blueprints, drawings or other written or oral specifications. Use previous Toolmaker training and understanding of the working properties of common metals and various steels to perform the following general functions to: select appropriate materials, tools and processes and make necessary shop calculations (uses basic trigonometry math calculations to determine lengths, angles and positions). Use various tool and die maker's hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Work to very close tolerances. Heat-treat metal parts and finished tools and dies to achieve required qualities. Fit and assemble parts to very close tolerances to independently construct progressive metal stamping/forming dies. Understand, die timing, die progression, die clearance, and shut height clearance for stamping presses. Evaluate stamped strip to: provide production support including troubleshooting progressive stamping and forming dies; perform die maintenance repair; and resolve any die installation issues.
  • GAGE TRAINING: Operation of all applicable gages.
  • TOOLING: Die Construction. Band Die. Housing Die. Form Grinding.
  • CNC: Machine Maintenance. Program Familiarity. CNC Language.
  • Perform special projects and other functions as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
  • Satisfactory completion of the Toolroom Training Instruction Checklist.
  • When necessary may perform other typical duties.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  • Well rounded experience in metal stamping, training in machine-shop and Toolroom practices (functions usually acquired through formal Toolmaker apprenticeship or a minimum of 4 to 6 years equivalent Toolroom training or on-the-job experience in a metal stamping Toolroom environment with formal machine shop or previous machine tool education.
  • Pay is DOE.
