Job Title: Thermal Design Engineer

Location: Fenton, MO (Relocation Assistance is Available)

  • Must reside within commutable distance of Fenton, MO. (This is a Onsite Role)
  • Travel to client sites required

Job Description

The Thermal Design Engineer will develop custom and standard designs for Specialty Boilers to suit the needs of customer requirements. Offer standard and unique solutions to challenges of the marketplace, building a competitive advantage through innovation.

  • Routine Decision Making/Problem Solving
  • Design heat recovery equipment based on the customer's process requirements and the heating surface optimization.
  • Select materials for components operating at various pressure and temperature conditions.
  • Size boilers and auxiliary equipment based on the company philosophy as defined in design guidelines.
  • Recommends exceptions and clarifications to be taken to unique or unusual customer specifications.

Required Knowledge:

  • Good understanding of boiler process design including heat balances, steam tables, and operating capabilities.
  • Experience with HRSG (heat recovery steam generators) design and implantation
  • Knowledge of waste fuel and process streams as sources of energy for heat recovery.
  • Experience in working on and with proposal teams- (RFI and RFP experience)
  • Knowledge of boiler equipment and limitations.
  • Thorough understanding of heat recovery equipment design concepts and the interdependency of components in a system.
  • Ability to think originally, possess sound judgment and develop competence and confidence in all phases of the job.
  • Capable of developing good working relationships with clients and internal customers.
  • Driven to perform tedious calculations with precise results.
  • Able to excite clients with the product design and convince them that they are buying the best product available.

Travel by plane or car. Available for response to customer/jobsite issues at all times. Will include travel both internationally and domestically.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate customer specifications by providing a detailed technical review, providing comments, clarifications, and exceptions, and requesting missing or additional information.
  • Develop the detailed design of Specialty Boilers including all calculations and auxiliary equipment selection per specification requirements.
  • Generate the technical portion of the Sales proposal.
  • Generate auxiliary equipment specifications at the proposal and project stages. Evaluate related bids and make recommendations for equipment supplier selection.
  • Develop data sheets for Estimating, Sales, Instrumentation & Controls, Engineering and Drafting groups.
  • Support the team with technical issues through all stages of project execution.
  • Actively participate in technical meetings with the customer at various stages of project development.

Education: Four-year college education in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; position requires a minimum 3.4/4.0 overall GPA.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in heat recovery.

Travel: approximately 10-20% of the time by plane or car. Available to support product training, customer meetings, or supplier meetings. May include travel both domestically and internationally.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
