Description of Job

An exciting opportunity to be a jack of all trades within CPW. This position will assist the area staff with maintenance of CPW properties and State Wildlife Areas.
Work can include (but is not limited to):

  • Routine maintenance of state wildlife areas.
    • Weeding and range maintenance, fence repair.
  • Placement and relocation of wildlife traps, haying, and extensive driving of state vehicle with trailers.
  • Employees will use hand tools, power tools, and small engines regularly.
  • Employees are expected to work long hours in adverse weather conditions, work independently, drive trucks with trailers, and utilize numerous hand and power tools.
  • This position works extensively with all area staff including biologists, wildlife officers, and office staff.
  • Applicants must be comfortable with working as a team and communicating professionally with the public.
  • Grounds and building maintenance cleaning on SWA (picking up trash etc.).
  • Working in remote areas.
LOCATION: 45 min. or app 30 mi. SW of Meeker, elevation 6200
Housing is provided (bunkhouse and office area have housing shared w/other employee’s)
employee’s must keep it clean and orderly.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  • 18 years or older
  • A current and license driver for operating state vehicles
  • Hard working with a positive attitude and willing to learn
  • Enjoys the outdoors and an outdoor work environment, including tolerance of inclement weather conditions
  • Willing and able to work 40 hours a week
  • Knowledge of basic construction and maintenance, and familiarity with hand tools and power tools
  • Willing to operate small engines and machines (e.g., generators, power washers, skid steer)
  • Ability to work independently with limited instruction
  • Ability to participate in strenuous physical activities and lift objects 50+ lbs
  • Subject to a background check
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in farming, ranching, irrigation, construction, and rangeland management
  • Experience with wildlife or animal husbandry
  • Familiarity with various power tools and routine repairs
  • Experience with heavy machinery and/or pulling trailers
