Job Title: Telecommunications Specialist II


Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt


Pay Group: S45
Salary Plan


Primary Purpose:
Perform routine (journey-level) telecommunications work involving diagnosing and resolving satellite, master antenna and cable antenna reception and distribution problems. This work includes installing and testing of headend equipment, distribution systems and climbing towers up to 175 feet tall. Work under moderate supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


Qualifications


Education/Certification/Experience:


High School Diploma from an accredited high school, or hold GED Equivalent.


Three years full-time, wage-earning experience installing and repairing electronic equipment, satellite systems, antenna systems, and cable television systems.


Certificate of completion from a trade or technical school accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the field of electronics or television repair or a bachelor’s degree in electronics or related field from an accredited college or university recognized by CHEA may be substituted for the required three years of experience.


This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.


Special Knowledge/Skills:


Ability to design and troubleshoot smatv/catv/matv headends and large distributions systems.


Ability to install, operate, and test telecommunication equipment; analyze, diagnose, and resolve telecommunication problems; interpret technical information; and communicate effectively.


Skill in the use of telecommunication test equipment.


Ability to write and complete reports.


Knowledge of agency and departmental policies.


Skill to interpret and apply rules, policies, and procedures.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


1. Receive and respond to reports of trouble related to telecommunications reception and distribution.


2. Confer with satellite providers, wardens, unit maintenance and regional recreation coordinators regarding proper operation, installation and maintenance of lines for TV viewing and FM listening.


3. Monitor telecommunications system performance and provide security measures, troubleshooting, and maintenance as needed.


4. Perform system moves and changes as needed.


5. Prepare material requests and time requirements for telecommunications components and wiring.


6. Provide technical guidance and assistance in isolating and resolving technical or administrative telecommunications issues.


7. Repair, test, install, customize, or maintain telecommunications components.


8. Use electronic test equipment to maintain high quality diagnostic capability to solve telecommunications problems and implement corrective measures.


9. Assist in reviewing and preparing specifications for equipment and headend or distribution equipment failure.


10. Assist in designing, configuring, and implementing headend and distribution systems.


11. Assist in establishing and coordinating a preventive maintenance program to ensure proper functioning of telecommunications systems and equipment.


12. Perform other duties as assigned.

13. Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of the job duties.


14. Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.


15. Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.


16. Execute duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard. Practices for Texas Educators.


Supervisor Responsibilities:
May supervise resident workers.

Environmental Demands:


Work inside and outside, noise, radiant/electrical energy, work alone, work with others, around machines with moving parts and objects, possible exposure to microwaves in use, exposure to hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
