This position provides frontline IT technical support to agency staff. Duties include greeting clients and helpdesk intake; PC, mobile and MAC support; assisting with hardware, software and network problems. As the Technical Specialist I you will:


  • Configure and install computer and printer hardware and software, including both PCs and MACs in a networked environment.
  • Interact with staff to troubleshoot problems, hardware and software.
  • Install and configure software applications for PCs and MACs
  • Diagnose problems using desktop tools from the computer to the wall jack.
  • Move/change computers, including patch cables from computer to wall jack.
  • Provide limited training and/or one-on-one consulting in the use of software packages.

  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations

Minimum qualifications:
  • Associate degree in computer technology; AND
  • 0-3 years’ experience working with computer users in a non-technical environment; OR
  • We will consider any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

COMPENSATION AND REPRESENTATION

Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro’s internal equity review process, and the candidates’ qualifications, the appointment will typically be made between $27.55-$31.90. The full-salary range for this position is $27.55 - $36.93 per hour.

This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by AFSCME 3580. It is classified as a Technical Specialist I (Download PDF reader). Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
