Position Summary:
The Teacher Assistant assist the Teacher in the planning and provision of individualized instruction to children with disabilities and typical role models ages birth to five years old. Incumbent in this position demonstrates sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Assists teacher in the execution of the education curriculum for all students in the classroom.
*

  • Support the teacher in establishing clear objectives for all lessons and activities and communicating those objectives to students.
  • Demonstrate and utilize appropriate guidance techniques, behavior supports, and classroom management skills.
  • Instruct students in daily living skills required for independent maintenance and self-sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and other health related habits (i.e. eating preparation).
  • Assist the teacher in administering snacks and ensuring room(s) is cleaned before and after snacks.
  • Follow and enforced established rules for behavior and policies and procedures to maintain order among students.
  • Responsible of the transportation of students to and from the school/activity, following a preplanned route according to a definite time schedule.
  • Responsible for the safety of school children in loading, uploading, and transporting them to and from the school/activity.
  • Document transportation arrival and departure time daily in the staff in and out log.
  • Adhere to agency, school handbook and transportation policies and procedure at all times.
  • Foster an environment that supports individual achievement, team spirit and leadership.
  • Report any suspected child abuse/neglect to the Hotline, as well as administration.
  • Attend training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Ensure confidentiality with all information, as well as the security and safety of all documents.
  • Ensure the safety of all staff, volunteers, visitors, and individuals receiving services at Easter Seals.
  • Act in compliance with Medical and Non-Medical Emergency Procedures.
  • Assist individuals in evacuating building during emergency situations to include but not limited to: fire drills and external disaster drills. Specific duties to be assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Assume assigned responsibility for non-clinical duties during disaster and/or drills including but not limited to safety of files/office areas, closure of doors.
  • Participate in continuous agency wide quality and performance improvement and comply with all Quality Improvement requirements.
  • Other related duties as necessary may be assigned to ensure the smooth running and efficiency of agency.

Qualifications:*

  • *

High School Diploma required.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with people with special needs.
  • 45 DCF hours certification required.
  • Experience in an educational setting with students with autism or special needs.

  • Other related duties as necessary to ensure the smooth running and efficiency of Easter Seals South Florida as a whole.
  • Successful completion of background process which includes: Local background check, Level 2 clearance (FBI, FDLE), clear TB test, medical clearance, drug test and reference checks.
  • Adhere to the use of Universal Health & Safety Precautions as applicable
