Job Overview
Students will be trained in one or more of the following areas:
  • Help Desk – Student Technicians will be the first contact with the customers either by phone, email, or walk in and enter the details of the helpdesk call into the Service Now ticket system.
  • Tech Shop – Student Technicians work with full time technician to troubleshoot and repair computer software problems, image new computers with the organization’s licensed software and prepare them for deploying to computer labs, faculty offices, and staff office. Troubleshoot and repair classroom A/V equipment and assist with new installations. Assist pulling cable. Basic troubleshooting of network cabling and identifying equipment.
  • Classroom Technology/Faculty Support – Work with IS Staff to support active learning classrooms and assist faculty and staff in the use of technology in the classroom.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • To serve an active part in the Information Technology (IT) support of students, staff, and faculty.
  • To act in the interest of Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) and the Information Technology department to facilitate teaching, learning, and business operations at TAMUG.
  • To uphold the reputation of the Information Technology department and the values, objectives and principles of Texas A&M University at Galveston.
General Qualifications
  • All applicants must have a basic knowledge of computers and computer applications.
  • All applicants must complete all helpdesk training.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student, with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Ability to multi-task and work with people on a variety of different levels.
  • This position is security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history check. Employment is contingent upon completion of criminal history check.
Learning Outcomes
  • Able to perform routine on-site troubleshooting, repair, and upgrade on microcomputer equipment to include software installation.
  • Able to discuss Information Technology department Helpdesk policies and procedures
  • Utilize Service Now Helpdesk ticket system and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Exemplify professionalism and develop proficient communication skills.
  • Interact positively with students, faculty, and staff: in person, on the phone, and through email.
  • Be able to work as member of the IT team.
