Job Description


The Systems/Platform Engineer is responsible for cross platform technologies, which includes data storage, backup/recovery, Active Directory, security, and other related infrastructure needs. The Systems Engineer is a technical position which encompasses SAN administration, Backups, Disaster Recovery planning, Active Directory needs, storage architectural planning and design, server engineering, and network security. This role is critical within the Philadelphia Police Department's IT infrastructure, thus sound technical knowledge in the subject area as well as consistent reliability is required. This position includes responsibilities for supporting the Philadelphia Police Department's infrastructure; therefore, professional skills along with the ability to work within a team are necessary.

Essential Functions
  • Strong networking skills required
  • Provisioning SAN storage, SAN administration, performance tuning, monitoring and management (EMC, Dell, HP)
  • Provide level 3 systems troubleshooting & problem resolution
  • Storage capacity planning
  • Managing backup/recovery solutions using CommVault
  • Planning and implementing software and firmware upgrades
  • Manage capacity upgrades
  • Provide primary support for infrastructure systems
  • Applications deployments and migration activities
  • Server monitoring
  • Address security concerns
  • Active Directory implementation, administration, and maintenance activities
  • Address infrastructure needs
  • Virtualization activities - creation, migration, administration, and maintenance

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to:
  • Provide engineering and administration of storage and server infrastructures
  • Test systems for vulnerabilities in hardware and software
  • Scheduling and managing backups and associated media
  • Manage SAN, NAS and backup/recovery/archiving (CommVault).
  • Manage Windows Desktop Operating Systems: Windows 10 and 11
  • Ability to create desktop images
  • Active Directory Administration and File management tasks
  • VMWare vSphere 6.0 and above
  • Scripting Technologies - VB Script, WMI, Power Shell
Knowledge of:
  • SAN, NAS and backup/recovery/archiving (CommVault preferred).
  • Storage certifications from Dell, EMC, HP, IBM or NetApp preferred.
  • Working knowledge of various Systems operating environment including:
o Windows Server 2016 and up
o Formatting and executing basic OS commands
o Navigating through directory structures
o Windows Server administration and management
  • Microsoft SQL
  • Active Directory Administration
  • VMWare vSphere 6.0 and above
  • Scripting Technologies
o VB Script, WMI, Power Shell
  • DNS/DHCP
  • Industry standard security protocols: SSL, TLS, IPsec, SHTTP, SFTP, Kerberos, SSH, etc.

Qualifications


 Completion of a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university, which has included major course work in Computer Science, information science, systems analysis, software engineering, or a closely related field is a plus, but not required.
AND
 Minimum of 4 years of technical experience in areas of solution engineering, design, Storage Area Networking, change management, capacity planning, and system security.
 Experience with advanced troubleshooting.
 Experience with SAN, NAS and backup/recovery/archiving (CommVault preferred).
 Storage certifications from Dell, EMC, HP, IBM or NetApp preferred.
 Backup and Recovery certifications a plus.


Additional Information


Salary Not to Exceed: $75,000
