Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Switchboard Operator I for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to perform routine work in operating a Department of Human Services, 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load. Talks to individuals during the operation of the switchboard. Serves as receptionist and receives and sorts facility mail. Performs routine clerical tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs routine work in operating a Department of Human services 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load.
  • Responds to and maintains records for emergency calls such as fire, medical, police etc.
  • Serves as receptionist.
  • Receives and sorts facility mail.
  • Performs routine clerical tasks involving the operation of simple manual or automated office equipment.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental developmental equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.

Work Hours: Various Shifts. See Below

(Vacancy 1) 2:30-10:30pm, Week 1-Friday, Week 2-Tues/Wed-Week 3-Mon/Sat/Sun rotating days off

(Vacancy 2) 6:30am-2:30pm & 2:30pm-10:30pm, Week 1-Mon/Sat/Sun, Week 2-Thurs, Week 3-Tues/Wed rotating days off

(Vacancy 3) 2:30pm-10:30pm & 10:30pm-6:30pm, week 1-Wed/Thurs, Week 2- Mon/Sat/Sun, Week 3-Fri rotating days off
