Reporting to the Director of Sustainability and as part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, the Sr. Sustainability Engineer will be key in continuing to develop and implement Blue Origin’s sustainability strategy. In this role you’ll be responsible for driving initiatives to achieve the organization sustainability goals across different sustainability areas including energy & climate, waste and water. You must have a passion for sustainability, be excited about building a systems vision while at the same time being agile and focused on driving practical solutions. You must be a self-driven individual who embraces challenges, builds internal partnerships with other functions and works under minimal direction.

Responsibilities:
  • Own and deliver Blue Origin sustainability goals and roadmaps for energy & climate, water and waste
  • Partner with other functions of the organization such as EHS, Facilities, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to identify opportunities to improve sustainability performance, develop action plans and propose and lead projects to successful implementation
  • Use sustainability reporting and analytics to drive sustainability performance
  • Research innovative technologies and solutions that support Blue Origin’s sustainability strategy and create value for the organization
  • Organize and lead sites’ sustainability councils that drive engagement across functions and ensure the right accountability is in place to deliver desired outcomes from those groups
  • Be a subject matter expert for sustainability related topics across the organization
  • Support sustainability efforts in other areas of the organization including Facilities, Manufacturing, Procurement, Logistics, Communications and Marketing
  • Establish a pipeline of internal and external sustainability communications working together with the Communications Department
  • Develop and provide sustainability training across the organization
  • Deliver in-person and virtual sustainability presentations to management and employees
  • Support building partnerships with external stakeholders including local communities, education institutions, suppliers, NGOs, government institutions and the industry sector
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s in engineering, sustainability, or related field
  • Knowledge of sustainability topics including carbon emissions, renewable energy, waste minimization and recycling, energy and water efficiency, etc
  • 5-7 years’ experience in sustainability in manufacturing
  • Experience working with scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions, carbon offsets, carbon neutrality certifications, PPAs, waste recycling
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Proven analytical and reporting skills
  • Self-starter- Ability to lead initiatives that require working together with multiple functions and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deliver outcomes on tight deadlines
  • Able to interact and present to senior management
  • Excellent inter-personal skills. Strong ability with Power Point, Word, Excel
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
  • Master’s degree
  • Knowledge of reporting frameworks such as CDP, GRI, TCFD, SASB and others
  • Knowledge of carbon neutrality certification and water certification framework such as Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)
