Surveying Skills

A. Project Control
1. Be able to establish project Horizontal Control
a. Be able to verify accuracy of consultant-provided control
b. Be able to establish working control points from provided control
c. Continuously checks and maintains horizontal control
2. Be able to establish project Vertical Control
a. Be able to verify accuracy of consultant-provided control
b. Be able to establish working benchmarks from provided control
c. Continuously checks and maintains vertical control
B. Instrument care, maintenance, and use
1. Able to check optical plummet
2. Visually checks instrument for evidence of damage or mis-adjustment.
3. Able to check and set temperature and pressure correction in Total Station.
4. Able to check and calibrate instrument collimation
C. Auto level Care, maintenance, and use
1. Able to run and adjust three-wire level loop.
2. Able to compute tangent grades.
3. Able to plot cross-sections and determine earthwork.
4. Is familiar with and able to read a contour map.
D. Able to make temperature corrections when chaining.
E. Have a basic ability to read and understand Structural / Architectural / Shop Drawings.
F. Be able to provide layout from drawings without assistance.
G. Be able to coordinate between drawings and discern potential conflicts.
H. Be proficient in the use of scales.
I. Be able to layout footings, columns, and building lines with no assistance.
J. Be able to establish vertical dimensions from given finish floor elevations.
K. Be able to compute concrete quantities for daily pours, slabs, columns, etc.
L. Be able to conduct fine grading operations.
M. Be able to level deck with no assistance.
N. Be able to grade columns with no assistance.
O. Be able to establish secondary benchmarks.
P. Be able to establish secondary horizontal and vertical control, i.e. column lines, offsets, and
5’ A.F.F.
Q. Be able to compute and track concrete during pour.
R. Understands plans and schedules.
S. Understands building and bridge layout techniques.

II. Mathematic Skills

A. Proficient in simple math, geometry, and trigonometry.
B. Able to figure deflection angles and solve curves.
C. Proficient in the computation of rectangular and polar coordinates.

III. Computations

A. Be proficient with Data Collection software
B. Introduction to AutoCAD
C. Knowledge of everything required of an Apprentice.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $62,792.26 - $138,071.20 per year
