Job Summary

The Engineering and Innovation Support Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development, improvement, and coordination of the engineering components of the Carle Illinois curriculum to respond to ever evolving technology and innovation and in alignment with the mission, vision, values of the college. This position involves working with a wide variety of faculty to help plan, develop, test, and deploy course offerings throughout the calendar year. The Engineering and Innovation Support Specialist will report to the Engineering and Innovation Curriculum Specialist.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with coordination and execution of engineering curricular content housed within the college.

    • Collaborate with Engineering and Innovation Curriculum Specialist, course/clerkship directors, Engineering and Innovation Thread Director, Academic Affairs leadership, and course faculty to design and deliver curricular content, instructional sessions, and assessment of engineering and innovation content to meet the needs of the medical educational program.
    • Provide additional support for all engineering and innovation content delivery.
    • Provide additional guidance as needed to faculty, staff, and medical students regarding all aspects of resource utilization including training and use of complex and highly specialized equipment and protocols.
    • Assist in coordination with Simulation Center leadership and staff for engineering and innovation activities that include simulation.
    • Review and enter medical student scores and final approved grades on the learning management system for the monitoring of student progress to inform individual and group educational outcomes.

  • Provide administrative support for Capstone, Data Science, and IDEA (Innovation, Design and Engineering Analysis) Project courses for students.

    • Assist faculty members running Capstone, Data Science, and IDEA project courses in supporting an interdisciplinary team of students and professionals to develop and deliver engineering and innovative solutions to clinical and healthcare challenges. This includes ordering supplies, posting medical student/faculty assignments, and entering information into the learning management system.

  • Additional Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field. Degrees in fields including education, health care, or similar areas are acceptable.

Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year of progressive experience in a professional setting. Experience obtained while working towards a master’s degree may be considered, if relevant and progressive.

  • Master’s degree

Experience

  • Two years of progressive experience in a professional setting in education, engineering, or a related area, and experience in a medical school or University engineering program.
  • Instructional experience (e.g., classroom, laboratory, field). Familiarity with research and development methods.
  • Familiarity with software programming language as well as computer-aided design (CAD). Knowledge of student and patient privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, etc.)

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 6/2/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
