Supervisor of Counseling
Position

REPORTS TO: East Orange Campus High School (EOCHS) Administration

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Assist in the coordination and implementation of the comprehensive school-

counseling program at East Orange Campus High School (EOCHS)

2) Conducts classroom/program observations and provides supervision/evaluation

of school counselors assigned to EOCHS

3) Maintain appropriate records, files and documentation of program activities and

effectiveness; submit periodic reports concerning those programs to the Director

of Educational Support Services and Parent Relations and EOCHS

Administration

4) Participate in the process of developing and conducting ongoing evaluation of

programs in the areas of responsibility

5) Develop and maintain guidance and career exploration programs, implementing

and monitoring their use in EOCHS

6) Act as a major resource for high school counselors in supplying information in

the area of research development, methodology, and materials pertaining to

school counseling and alternative programs

7) Serve as a resource person for EOCHS staff

8) Attends meetings as assigned/approved and accurately turnkeys information to

certified staff on items related to achieving district educational goals during

department, school, or administrative meetings

9) Assist in the recruitment, screening, hiring, training and assigning of instructional

personnel

10) Organizes and oversees the registration of new students to EOCHS and provides

orientation and information relative to school procedures, curriculum and

extracurricular activities

11) Assist with the supervision of the crisis intervention units in EOCHS

12) Assist with handling parent complaints at Campus

13) Facilitates and follows the timeline for the auditing of student credits and



community service at EOCHS

14) Organizing, overseeing, and participating in the scheduling and course selection

for all students; responsible for the accuracy of student audits

15) Responsible for developing, and implementing a school-wide outreach program

(e.g. Intervention and Referral Service) for at-risk, displaced, and homeless

students to ensure counseling and case management to address their

emotional/social issues, challenges, and concerns

16) Provide activities to promote staff awareness and compliance with McKinney-

Vento procedures and requirements

17) Maintains confidential case records based on best practices in counseling/social

work

18) Works closely with DCP&P relative to high school at-risk students through the

Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008, under

N.J.S.A. 30:4C-26b

19) Maintains appropriate records, files, and documentation of program activities,

effectiveness, and prepares reports to meet district, municipal, county, state, and

national requirements

20) Responsible for developing school counseling programs; drafting materials, and

delivering staff training programs; assists school counselors in the use of

programs and the development of forms and protocols

21) Assess and evaluate existing school programs and policies; assist schools in

implementing new policies; and designs strategies to facilitate student referrals

22) Works with administrators and teachers to support service delivery to parents

(e.g. Grade Level Family Nights)

23) Develops and implements parent training programs for parents, staff, and

students

24) Assists in the student attendance process; maintain documentation for

transferred and dropout students

25) Assists in disseminating information related to parental involvement

26) Documents and keeps records indicating the number of parents participating in

activities (i.e., workshops, parent training, conferences)

27) Designs activities and programs that will increase parental involvement in the

school

28) Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification

as may be assigned

29) Responsible for organizing and hosting a school college fair and financial aid

workshop

30) Responsible for school counseling yearly calendar of events, college and career

exposure for all students (e.g. trips, presentations, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:



1) Valid NJDOE Administrative Certification (preferred)

2) Valid NJDOE Certification as a Director of School Counseling Services or

Supervisory certification (required)

3) Three years or more of successful teaching/counseling experience

4) Experience in Development & Implementation of Parent Involvement Programs &

initiatives

5) Demonstrated ability in developing programs and directing the work of others

6) Required criminal history background check, drug screening and eligibility to work

in the United States.

7) All applicants must meet NJ Residency requirements as per “New Jersey First

Act”, N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70).

8) Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily.

3) The appointment of a person to the position advertised is the responsibility of the

Board of Education and will be made in compliance with Board policies related to

the appointment of professional staff

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month work year

SALARY RANGE:

As per the negotiated agreement between the EOBOE and the EOAA
